I did like this tidbit about the accents from their podacst (siap)

Speaking on the show's official podcast, Craig Mazin said: "The decision not to use Russian accents was a big one that we made early on.

"We had an initial thought that we didn't want to do the 'Boris and Natasha' cliched accent because the Russian accent can turn comic very easily. At first, we thought that maybe we would have people do these sort of vaguely Eastern European accents - not really strong but noticeable.

"What we found very quickly is that actors will act accents. They will not act, they will act accents and we were losing everything about these people that we loved.

"Honestly, I think after maybe one or two auditions we said 'Ok, new rule. We're not doing that anymore."

That's my take on it as well. In reality, its not like they'd be speaking english anyway, so why have them speaking english with Russian accents? It ends up flowing better with the actors natural accents.

Havent watched the show yet, judging from the comments it seems like a well done show. Seen enough documentaries in the past.

Bhopal gas disaster in India was even a worse tragedy than this chernobyl thing. Eventually poor countries would face such disasters, they can't run shyt like that.

:lupe: thanks, i'm about to research this and find a doc

Yeah, not enough documentaries about it. Probably they hiding some information as a direct order from union carbide that were responsible for this. Muthafukkas were dying in the streets literally, dead animals all over the place and shyt.

No Whammies!!
It's actually extremely safe compared to the alternative forms of energy. We fear nuclear power because of the total destruction it can cause at a single moment, but that reality exists now with fossil fuels.

We're short sighted and shallow. It's the climate change argument. If I told you that there was a chance that space debris would impact a city and wipe out 250,000 people you'd spend the money on a missile defense system. If I told you that your usage of fossil fuels would kill 250,000 people you'd set up a committee to discuss the discussion.

Look at the coal miner and firefighter situation from this perspective. Firefighters, or smoke eaters, from the past have extremely high rates of cancer because they didn't wear SCBAs in the past. Coal miners have extremely high rates of cancer too. But we're going bat shyt because Chernobyl has completely wiped out their "chance" of living a cancer free life. We're simply reacting to the grotesque scenario's on display.

Yeah, even though what happened was horrific, I think humans are probably going to have to eventually figure out how to make some form of nuclear power safe if we want to keep the lights on without ending up under several feet of water. It seems that Chernobyl was just way way too big, and technology wasn't ready for what they were trying to do back then.

Plus we need to figure out how to dig a hole deep enough to get rid of the waste. That's the real problem.

y'all know about this right...hopefully...

I'll let y'all read the rest of that thread.
I just love those 'beat ya chest' type americans who swear their country never does any wrong:heh:
It's like how that plane was shot down over Ukraine by the pro-Russian rebels in 2014. I got into an argument with this clown on facebook when he was yapping about russians being evil and should be brought to justice over this blah blah and that America has never done anything like this. I had to remind that clown when the US Navy shot down Iranian airliner carrying hundreds of civilians over the gulf and then were like "It's terrorist!" only to do an about face 48 hours later and be like "oh..our bad...but they didnt respond" only to take it back a few weeks later again.

Start at 23:45 mark for the incident. The coverup starts around 27:30 or 28:10 when they lied about the airliner's location/heading and altitude

Yeah, nuclear power is relatively safe all things considered. It has a pretty good track record, it's just that whenever there is an accident, the results are catastrophic. So it probably seems a little more scary than it is, and I think the chances of a more severe catastrophe than Chernobyl happening are probably low...but at the same time, humans do makes mistakes.

It'll be interesting to see what happens as the world needs more and more energy.

I agree that the waste is the biggest problem. Didn't they find a giant place miles deep out in the desert to put it? That Yucca Mountain place?

Speaking of nuclear waste this video is super interesting in terms of how to label nuclear waste that will last across many generations and possible changes in language:

Yeah in the podcast this morning the show writer/creator was telling how those stories were much worst than he showed. He mentioned a scene where a puppy was shot and thought to be dead. Turns out it was still alive as the cement was being poured. The guys felt bad about burying it alive but... they were all out of bullets...:sadcam:
I'm sure being part of those hundreds of thousands of people that did the cleanup changed them cats almost as bad as being a war veteran
I addressed the dogs above.

god damn:damn:

As far as the "You're done" comment, i had misinterpret it the same way you did until i listened to the podcast this morning. He didnt mean "YOU are done" as in that soldier is screwed. He meant "You are done with your mission" because after being exposed to that amount of radiation for 90 seconds those dudes were completely removed from that evacuation zone because within a few seconds they got hit with more radiation than they should for a lifetime. So they should be removed from that area completely.

Hourly logs are kept for People that work in radioactive environments. They limit how much exposure you can take within a week or a month using these "films" that indicate how much radioactive exposure you've had. Once you reach a certain limit you need to be removed from the environment.

Oh cause I was thinking that dude was fukked :skip:

Imma keep it %100, if it were up to me to go any where near that reactor to prevent a global disaster....yall fukked.

I wouldve told them to put a bullet in me. I aint volunteering for shyt, fukk my expertise :francis:
Well breh, sometimes something are bigger than you and you'll find yourself willing to sacrifice yourself for it. Remember among the ones that that may end up dying if it ain't done are your own loved ones like your children and wife and mother and sister.

Like my man said in the speech, "... You'll do it because nobody else can.A if you don't, millions (including your own children and family) will die. If you tell me that's not enough, I won't believe you":francis:

Finally caught up with episode 4. The roof scene was chilling, the young soldier slowly becoming dog killer, and the 3 main characters were trying to discuss whether to blow the whistle or not. The baby did that, so hopefully the mother ain’t had to go through that..
