No Whammies!!
I read that a typical nuclear bomb has like 35 pounds of Uranium, but the Chenobyl plant itself contained 150+ TONS of the stuff. That's why the smoke was putting out two bombs worth of radioactivity per hour for the first couple of days.

What were they thinking building something so massive? That explains the joke the miner made about a Soviet machine the size of a house that burns diesel fuel and spits out a ton of exhaust just to slice an apple into three pieces.

They were trying to beat the Americans. And their own hubris told them that a RMK or whatever type of reactor doesn't explode ever. Until it did..

Is the KGB pretty much number one all time in straight up goon status?
"a circle of accountability"
Those dudes are fukking terrifying.

I'm ashamed to admit I didn't realize that the KGB agents following Legasov were the same people who asked him if they needed to worry about anything in the hotel back in episode 1. I didn't notice it until I read it in a recap.

Hold up - that piece of shyt shift manager from Episode 1 is still alive? :stopitslime:

Old girl didn't listen to the doctor and she's gonna give birth to a kid with an extra arm now :francis:

In the opening scene of the first episode, Legasov mentioned that Dyatlov was going to get 10 years in prison even though he deserved death. Since that scene is 2 years later, he must have recovered.

He never got that much radiation and it was a 50/50 chance he would survive. He got lucky. Well lucky enough to die from heart failure in 1995

Nah, the baby girl will die because of the radiation and the government takes the body from her. True story it’s really sad how this incident takes everything from her.
