I'm seriously thinking of moving to North Carolina

is Charlotte or Raleigh better, I heard from my cousin who frequents North Carolina that they're both very nice

what yall think, any info, there's no wrong answers.
They are mostly the same kinda city. You're coming from New York, correct? Neither are gonna feel like a "big city" to you...

Charlotte will appear bigger, and if size is a factor, then go for Charlotte. Statistically it's about 45% larger than Raleigh by both MSA and GDP, and I'd say that translates to most things, it has about 45% more things going on at a given time than Raleigh does...

For some, that 45% is a major gap, and again if thats a big deal to you, go Charlotte. Having lived in both, that 45% isnt that substantial to me...

Housing is the same in both. Career opportunities are largely the same in both, Raleigh is more white collar and tech, Charlotte is more blue collar and financial industries, apart from that they are similar job markets. Raleigh has more of an education aesthetic, Charlotte more of a "big business" persona...

Both are safe cities, Raleigh is safer but dont be fooled by Charlotte crime, there's 911,000 people in Charlotte, it has a pretty low crime rate for a city it's size...

Same type of nightlife is in both, and both city downtowns are similar. Charlotte does have more luxury retail, and a larger quantity of venues. Raleigh has these things too but just in less number, so fewer options. Charlotte has three major league sports (MLS, NBA, NFL) compared to one for Raleigh (NHL), though Raleigh has the driver seat between the two on an MLB franchise in five years or so...

With that though, again Charlotte is gonna have more entertainment venues than Raleigh. Charlotte is more diverse but Charlotte is also more redneck...

Black community is the same in both, very mobile, large middle class, large community of black wealth, both cities have black representation in social and political realms locally. Two educated black communities. nikkas in Raleigh dress better though and have more of a creative sensibility...

I've grown to love Raleigh. Its basically Charlotte with a 45% smaller footprint, and I love the creativity and fashion of The R. Nightlife here is dope, its got a pretty elite parks and rec system, and like Charlotte bad women are everywhere. I don't really care that Charlotte is bigger as there is always something going on here too, so unless you're outside all the time it doesn't really affect that Charlotte has more of these things going on...

If you move here, you can view having Durham next door as a plus but I don't really. Raleigh has so much popping I rarely be in Durham unless I'm working...

If you have a chance to visit both, do it. I think you could enjoy either, it'll just boil down to, which city do you prefer, the larger one with more options or the smaller one with all the same shyt just in less quantity. If you prefer more luxury anything or more options, go Charlotte. If you prefer a better parks and rec indrastructure with more educated and creative people, go Charlotte...

Otherwise they are the same, feel free to ask me more specific questions if you got any!
@murksiderock I'm thinking of moving to Charlotte or Raleigh in the future

Nah it doesn't get extreme in either. Raleigh can be more prone to hurricane remnants than Charlotte, since Raleigh is closer to the coast, but you'll never be in the direct path of a hurricane, it's far enough off the coast...

Have you ever visited either? Based on information you have which do you think would suit your personality more, and why are you thinking of leaving New York?

I'm from NY but don't live there anymore, I was trying to move back in the future but it's too expensive, too crowded, and not in a racist way but nobody speaks English, so I think my personality favors Charlotte

thanks for all your help bro

Charlotte is way more racist than Raleigh. I'm guessing because of all the surrounding hick counties. Could make finding and keeping a job difficult.
My job takes me all over the Charlotte region. I’ve met plenty white people who are from or lived in Charlotte that moved to other cities like Boone, Hickory, Lincolnton, etc because they “hate what Charlotte has become” You can read the comments on any story dealing with Charlotte politics and people love to say “Democrat ran city” and all that. This is the same city that put a man straight out of the Keith Scott protests right into a city council seat eventually making him Mayor pro tem. Now the surrounding hick counties are pretty racist, but Charlotte?? I mean maybe if you’re talking about SouthPark or the Ardrey Kell area. I would tell people to do more research before taking away a possibly good opportunity from them because they just took your word saying the whole city is racist. And shyt, I live in Concord… a city people really consider racist, but I’ve never had any problems personally. I know where to go and not go though.

If he's comparing Charlotte to Raleigh. I think Charlotte has more racists.

And I'm not changing my opinion so no need to quote me.

I think it's dope how both are growing on the national stage, compared to what they were when we were kids (I'm 35) or even a decade ago. I consider Charlotte a major national city, and it wasn't always that. It's got one of the 10 busiest airports in the country, it's got light rail, and it definitely has a brand that people nationally are aware of that didn't always exist...

I'd say in my travels, when people hear "Charlotte" they think of somewhere great for Black people and families, both of which are true. Have also found that Charlotte has a positive image with Hispanics out west (I've known LA Hispanics who moved to Charlotte, and a Hispanic friend from Sac who travels has visited Charlotte). People in the Midwest seem to think highly of Charlotte as well...

Northeasterners have always been familiar with Charlotte and NC in general, there's generations of families that have moved back and forth between NE states and NC. This applies to Raleigh too, I think NE'ers view Raleigh pretty well...

I also think Raleigh has that "great for Black people and family" thing going. I think Rgh's major obstacle is that, there are still many people who can't distinguish it from Durham. So when I've heard Raleigh mentioned outside the South or outside the East Coast it's often mentioned as "RDU" or "Raleigh-Durham", one city. Many people do know they are different cities but a whole lot of people don't...

So that's an image thing, bit on the positive people know about it's great job market and that many people are moving here. I think The Triangle in general is growing the way The Metroplex grew 60 years ago. Raleigh is Dallas, Durham is Fort Worth, Cary is Arlington. Dallas didn't have much of a national profile until the 60s, I think Raleigh is becoming that, it's 60 years behind bit it's image on a national scale as both the city of Raleigh, and the Triangle region, are about in line with how Dallas and the Metroplex grew...

Anyone who lives in either Charlotte or Raleigh today are experiencing both cities in their highest form ever, which certainly isn't the case everywhere. Places like Baltimore, Memphis, Oakland, St Louis, New Orleans and others peaked long ago and are in varying stages of social and physical decline. Charlotte and Raleigh are both growing upwards literally and figuratively, and the future looks even brighter for both...

It's an exciting time to be in both cities...

Don’t short change us

🤣 🤣 I go by the previous year Census estimates but fair enough, World Population Review does estimates for the current year which is probably accurate. WPR says '24 Raleigh is 488,854, which is probably accurate for the current year too...

Raleigh was jumping all weekend in this mf, I really encourage anyone who hasn't been here recently to take a trip!
