You are mistaken. He joined the Lakers in 03-04. The 02-03 year he didn't make the all star team. He was old and washed.

Let's drop some facts Feb2002: he played all-star, Jul2003: he joined the Lakers. May2003 he ended the season as the #21 in ppg, 8 rb and 5 ast.

Washed compared to his prime years perhaps but statistically better than just about 96% of the league. But by 2003 we had a supreme class of PF in Dirk, Webber, Garnett, Dirk and Duncan hell even Jermaine Oneal. So with that class of PFs he just had to miss it but was still on that supreme level.

Then add Payton who was just selected All-star and was a star player.

The wing man has always been important from Magic and Kareem, Jordan and Pippen to Shaq and Kobe to Lebron and Dwade and the list goes on.

Sometimes it's two dope players and 3 trash, others it's 1 dope and 4 solid and on. Now the trend is 2-3 dope players by trade. The only problem is when 1 or 2 teams are doing it like with gsw and Heat, I'd rather see 8 teams do this and shyt will get a lot more interesting than luck yielding 1 super team.

You gonna let the luck of getting good drafts chose your destiny or make a move like people do in every other sport. If everyone tries to optimize their situation you can't complain that you didn't get a Pippen and c00nman that would go onto become an exceptional addition without being a top draft.
