So what other artforms are more intellectual like rap? You telling me cats like Mos Def and Common don't drop knowledge? Pac didn't drop knowledge? J. Cole isn't out here discussing real topics? Please show me a musical genre that is more of an intellectual art form than rap :beli:
For every J Cole there are like 1000,00000,00000 Chief Keefs

And in any case, there are entire eras and sub genres of other genres just dedicated to politics and existentialism. Lot of those brehs (i.e. Joe Strummer) were no more educated than the avg rapper. And yet their shyt is way more profound.

I mean what other genres of music do you listen to, to even know how rap compares? Are you as knowledgeable about any other genre as you are about rap, to even speak w/such general authority?

I love rap and most of the music I listen to is rap. The bulk of the music I have made in my life is rap. But it is generally a pretty limited and anti-intellectual genre.

well...frankly I don't wanna hear IT on the radio.

and Waka isn't really THAT dumb.

And Lupe has been exposed on actual debates on political shows.

Hip-Hop (I know you'll hate me) HAS ALWAYS been a corporate consumer class for people to identify with.

the fact that they call it a "culture" in the first place was always laughable to me. It basically comprises a "kit" and "uniform"

Hip Hop IS a culture. I AM Hip Hop. That doesn't mean that I pushed weight like Jay or I've been to prison like Pac or I used to sell rocks like Biggie. It means that I grew up with it and it is a part of me. The coli is proof that hip hop is a culture, look how many esoteric rap references you'll see being dropped in threads. The very fact that we make so many esoteric references is proof that hip hop is a culture, not to mention the slang, fashion, and attitudes that go with being a REAL rap fan. How is hip hop any less of a culture than the hipster culture?

So name me some specific genres, (NOT sub genres) that are more intellectual than rap. I hear stupid Rock, Pop, and Country all the time, their fans hate on mainstream material just as much as rap fans hate on mainstream material. What makes them so much more intellectual than rap?

Hip Hop IS a culture.
Its laughable that you say that.

I AM Hip Hop.
thats cute, but that doesn't mean anything.

Of course not. didn't say that.

It means that I grew up with it and it is a part of me.
...which means? :pachaha:

The coli is proof that hip hop is a culture,
huh? :what:

look how many esoteric rap references you'll see being dropped in threads.
you mean sarcastic rap fans? :rudy:

FASHION?

You see that?

I'm trying to tell you.

When you learn about how buying classes and personal identity works, then you'll see what a farce this whole "hip-hop" mindset is at its core.

That goes for ever other genre of music...but I'd hate to pull back the curtains too soon for ya'll :mjpls:

Yea but Jersey Shore is a culture. Steubenville is a culture. Juggalos are a culture. Whether rap is in that realm is debatable but the idea that something being a culture makes it respectable and intellectual is just not an automatic thing.

Jazz, rock

And rock, pop, country etc don't have mainstream hits about killing people or date raping broads. So even while other genres might not be more intellectual they are def nowhere near as destructive.

Your statement that rap is anti-intellectual is relative. Rap is a music genre, therefore it should be compared relative to other music genres. Please name some genres (NOT SUB-GENRES) that are more intellectual than rap, and post up examples please :lupe:
