I am kinda loss...according to coli terms wtf is a c00n? this word is used so freely here, I must be old school but break it down for me because I dont see how he is doing it

It has no meaning on this board anymore. C00n is now a term for a black person who does anything that other black people don't like.

You're black and have white friends?= C00n
You're black and skateboard?= C00n
You're black and don't perpetuate any of the traditional stereotypes perceived with black American identity?= C00n
You're black and don't listen to hip-hop primarily?= C00n
You're black and date outside of your race?= C00n
You're black and grew up in the burbs (even though you had no choice in where you were born or raised)?=C00n

Now a days when a Black person refers to another as a "c00n" they are accusing them of selling out their race for the acceptance of another. Particularly Whites.

So a Black person that say... only hangs out with White people and regularly bad mouths Black people to them for laughs and/or approval. They are what (a lot) of Black folks consider a c00n.

but alot of times I see when someone disagrees with another black man thoughts that have an opinion that makes black look bad they consider them an uncle tom or c00n...even if some of the stuff they say is true..seems that the perception that they are siding with the next race and selling out.....

this guy isnt a c00n he speaks the truth. and i have no idea how people say hiphop is a culture its more a fad. most people move on to other forms of music when they hit like 25. ive been posting since forever and seen it with my real eyes and how many people here or IRL say hip hop sucks now....its we're just older now and smarter

"fad" isn't the word you're looking for.

Wearing one pants leg up was a fad. It's something that comes and goes.

Hip Hop is still around. Maybe you meant phase

We include everyone in our creativity and years down the line never get the credit for it. Its the same old cycle.

At the bold, sure sometimes. But remember that just because something is "true" doesn't mean it's absolute if that makes sense. Just because something is true doesn't mean that is all there is to it. There are reasons well documented by history as why modern Black folks are where we are today. And some Black folks understandably get upset when someone suggests something negative a Black folks out of context. This is because it makes Blacks look bad unfairly. This is doubly true when a Black person holds such views because it reinforces outsiders usually uniformed opinions.

I'm not accusing Charlemagne of any of this as I didn't watch the video. (Listening to music) I'm talking in general. Hopefully I explained this well.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
Eh, I'm not a fan of his either, maybe HE was a bad example, but I still stand by the fact that there is smart hip hop out there. If you were really a fan then you'd make an effort to find it :manny:
Lupe embarrassed himself in debates not long ago. Stop it

Rap, overall, is not an intellectual artform. Enjoy it for what it is but be honest about its limitations

So what other artforms are more intellectual like rap? You telling me cats like Mos Def and Common don't drop knowledge? Pac didn't drop knowledge? J. Cole isn't out here discussing real topics? Please show me a musical genre that is more of an intellectual art form than rap :beli:

Hip hop is only a fad if you're a casual fan. I hate when music elitists try to talk down on rap as if cats like Talib, Pac, or Lupe (admittedly a smart dumb nikka sometimes) couldn't go toe to toe in intellectual debates with artists from any other genre. For every Wocka Flocka Flame we have an Immortal Technique, but you know who doesn't want to hear Immortal Technique on the radio? The mainstream. Who comprises the mainstream? Mostly white people. Hip Hop is a culture, you're not too old OR smart for hip hop, you just were never that big of a fan

well...frankly I don't wanna hear IT on the radio.

and Waka isn't really THAT dumb.

And Lupe has been exposed on actual debates on political shows.

Hip-Hop (I know you'll hate me) HAS ALWAYS been a corporate consumer class for people to identify with.

the fact that they call it a "culture" in the first place was always laughable to me. It basically comprises a "kit" and "uniform"

Mos Def and Common are dudes who wanna be deeper than they are.

And J Cole? Real topics?

:camby:

And yet I bet you claim dudes ilke Drake and Kanye don't do that shyt. Ye talks about "you know how we get money and just spend it" and Drake is out here talking about actual "come ups" and relationships as if everyone doesn't relate to that.

This is what i don't get from you guys. Just cause some dude is rappin' about drone strikes DONT MEAN shyt.

Entertainment COMES FIRST to me

If you wanna rap about some social issue, go ahead, but don't act like you're supposed to be "higher" on that chain because of it.

Ludacris made Runaway Love...but the song was so dope you could listen to it in the club and STILL enjoy the message. Thats how great music is.

Bob Marley wasn't popular because of his message...he was popular because he made GOOD MUSIC WITH A MESSAGE.

Thats like saying Eminem makes the best music. He can rap...but he can't craft actual MUSIC to save his life these days.

And if we REALLY want to talk about intellectualism, we can go to songs like "Strange Fruit" and other jazz compositions that go beyond beating people over the head with geopolitical topics they barely understand.

Most of these rappers ain't really that smart anyways. If you hear them talk about something its damn near laughable.

Hov told ya'll. Just cause you don't understand him, don't mean he's bright.
