You're right though, ninjas these these days are edgelords. They want Raphael to be all four ninja turtles.
You're not allowed to be a noble hero with actual virtues anymore or else you're instantly dismissed as lame/boring/unrealistic/etc.

Anti-heroes are cool, but not every character is meant to be that. You have to have that balance.

The more cynical side of me wonders if people simply weren't raised with any moral compass to have that kind of a nihilistic mindset. Like they're just inherently demonic, untrustworthy human beings that never had friends or anything going for them socially, never grew up wanting to be anything in life that required them to be disciplined or selfless, or never had any positive role models that taught them about responsibility and being a good person. :picard:
^^^Okay, it's not THAT serious with that last paragraph (:pachaha:) but you get my point.
Captain America is currently one of the most popular characters with one of the most popular trilogies in recent history. A straight laced charter can be well liked if done right. Cyclops is just a lame that people have hated since the 90's cartoon and prior.

The 90s cartoon is part of what I’m talking about. Most people today don’t really read comics like that and only judge the characters by the cartoons and movies that sacrificed nearly everyone at the altar of Wolverine.

Comic Cyclops was and still is a true leader who constantly fights and sacrifices for the good of mutants even though he has self doubts. He’s G-checked Wolverine multiple times, wrecked Mr. Sinister, went Mano-a-Mano with the hardest x-men villains out there (Apocalypse, Magneto, Master Mold), rescued innocent lives, and bodied whole teams of X-men by himself just to prove a point. On top of that, he’s pulled some of the baddest women in the Marvel U like Jean and Emma. Even Psylocke was thirsting for Scott in the 90s.

He’s got a couple of trash stories (X-Factor #1 for example) just like most characters, but NOBODY has fought harder and sacrificed more for Xavier’s dream overall than Scott Summers. He's always there to make the tough calls that nobody else wants to (or is able to make). He's made mistakes, and he's definitely uptight, but he'll step up and get the job done when you really need him.

Cats don’t see that though because we treat every character like a punchline unless they’re hot in the movies. Captain America is that guy NOW, but average people weren’t really checking for him and the Avengers like that until the MCU took off.

The fact is that movies and cartoons are how most people are introduced to these characters. If one of your favorite characters from the source material is portrayed as a lame in every other medium then that's how most people will see them. You can tell people that they're wrong but they're not not going to see it your way until a better portrayal takes place. Maybe Cyclops will get some shine in the movies now that Marvel has the rights back. Until then, in the minds of most of the population, he's a bytch ass nikka.

There was a point where every character was a version Wolverine or Batman. It was annoying.

Might have to be Longshot for me.

The idea that "good luck" is a mutant power is about one of the dumbest things that Marvel could have thought of
