Big fish in a small pond, he was a useless midcarder in the major leagues
Had to be a Goldust mini-me to get any buzz
ehh. cody is actually surrounded by better talent now than he was in the WWE, so you cant use that 'big fish/small pond' analogy.
the WWE roster was meh when cody was there. he was gone by the time the talent raids kicked in.
Look at other sons of legends. For the most part, ALMOST all of them fail miserably, especially when they try to recreate their dad's gimmicks.
Yet you have Cody here dying his hair blonde, booking himself to win the title his dad made famous, and you got smarks falling over themselves to root for him.
dusty did NOT make the NWA title famous.
that belt was famous before dusty Rhodes was even alive.
No, look at Sandow, Swagger, etc. It's a grip of nikkas that the smarks loved an swore they would blow once they left WWE, and they fell flat.
You gotta know how to work the system and the audience, and Cody did. The same audience that prioritizes in ring wrestling and 5-star shyt over EVERYTHING ELSE, Cody worked them into believing he's the top star, even tho he prob never had higher than 3 -star match.
the thing is, cody isn't working the audience. the audience is working themselves on cody's behalf. they know better.
hes just a guy that people always wanted to see succeed. and I think it was you that mentioned how they eat up the fact that he left the WWE to play indie hero.
cody realizes this and milks it for what its worth. gotta respect his hustle tho.
it's pretty amazing how this guy gets a pass from the smarks.... he's not all that in-ring, generic, bland look, mediocre promos, and not much charisma, and has the entitled son syndrome too...he's basically Jeff Jarrett of this generation but because he aligned himself with the bullet club and embraced the indy scene, people pretend he isn't basically Jeff Jarrett of this generation...
in fact, I'd argue that's an insult to Jeff Jarrett....as Jarrett actually was more over with two iterations of his character (the early 90s country music singer heel and the late 90s slapnuts debra attitude era version) than any CAWDY iteration, although i will i did enjoy the broken face dashing character but it was short lived.....
Stardust was played way too goofy, he was super bland and green during the legacy days, Dashing was pretty good but short-lived, and just the generic version of him is pretty forgetable as is this current american nightmare no-last name version of him....
he would be a nobody if he wasn't the son of Dusty.... yet indy smarks have idolized him into being this messiah of all things indy
THIS.
I was telling somebody the other day, that cody Rhodes is basically a likeable jeff jarrett.
and similar to you, I also said that the comparison is a dis-service to jarrett, cuz jarrett reached the top of every promotion he was ever in, except the WWF - and that's only because of steve Austin.
plus, in his early days, jarrett was a way better worker.
Dustin's ability was wasted. At least Cody overachieved.
nah
dustin had the better career still.
book aint closed on cody yet tho.
