I feel like social media makes everything black and white. I have thoughts on both sides of the coin.

On one end, ‘Sued for rape’ is INSANE I legit don’t think iver ever heard that. Why not charges

and in civil courts the standard isn't "beyond a reasonable doubt," which is often hard to prove in stuff like rape. it's just whether there's a greater than 50% chance that the defendant is responsible for the harm caused.

Yea I know how civil trials work. Typically, in cases of real justice, not just modern post metoo post Cosby, you go to court then you go civil. It avoids the appearance that you’re JUST going for money.

When people go straight to civil trial/lawsuit, 1) it immediately calls into question motive, and 2) it lets the accuser avoid going under oath and/or being held liable for perjury.

So if you go civil before legal it’s noteworthy and I’m withholding judgment

if you're a victim of a crime, you have no say about when a criminal case happens. you do when you're a civil plaintiff, and the statute of limitations is much shorter.

and a civil case doesn't let people avoid going under oath, you're under oath at a deposition and you're under oath if there's a trial. and evidence from civil trials can be used in criminal cases.
