I've seen teams underachieve but fukk. I know, baseball is a crapshoot in the playoffs and at least the Yankees have been making it there, etc.. etc.. all the talking points but :comeon:

How has Cashman survived this? It's epic collapse after epic sonning every year.

By never really getting full autonomy outside of one year.

This is the sweetest part of seeing the Yankees get swept. They need to stop trying to buy championships and actually field a baseball team.

I get that... he doesn't make EVERY call but this is a video game team. They literally throw darts at a board of all-stars to choose who they bring in.

How have they tried that ? What free agents have we tried to buy? You confusing us with the angels and tigers

You can make the point without going to such an extreme that you undercut yourself.

Who are these dart-board all stars? Kuroda, the #3 starter from a non-playoff team? Nova, a homegrown, inconsistent pitcher? Russell Martin, a reclamation project? Andruw Jones, the definition of :flabbynsick: ? A past his prime, part time playing Raul Ibanez? Robbie Cano, a homegrown all star? Curtis Granderson, a player who was scuffling and came at the price of two excellent prospects? The left side of the infield, who are collectively 745 years old? Pineda, who cost the Yankees their most valuable prospect and didn't pitch an inning? Freddy Garcia, who is Freddy Garcia? Andy Pettite, who was retired, then had a broken leg? Oh, you must be talking about Ichiro, who is old and broken down and had an obp under .300 for a good chunk of the season in Seattle. Ladies and gentlemen, the embarrassment of riches is impossible to comprehend. :usure:

This is probably the worst season to make that kind of claim. Cashman made a slew of savvy moves this season, and this team had no business winning the most games in the AL and making it to the ALCS.

The team is pretty much THE model of excellence and consistency in professional sports. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest payrolls this year didn't even make the playoffs.

:pachaha:

Wait, a team with their payroll had no business making it? Why were they the favorites in Vegas then? The thread is about the last twelve years, bub. Tex wasn't a high priced free agent? CC wasn't? Giambi? Who else had the resources to bring in A-Rod? Yes, they gave up Soriano but that doesn't dismiss the fact that they were the only team that was going to absorb his deal. Then they gave him a similar extension.

Igawa? Money down the drain.
Brought in former all-stars like Sheffield and Randy Johnson? How did they work out?

They overpaid for Soriano. They brought in Ichiro. The list goes on and on and on..

Yes, Cano is home grown. You can argue that Granderson was a "savvy" move. There are examples but they are few and far between.

Bottom line, one World Series after all that in twelve years? The issue with the Yankees and their inability to hit in the postseason isn't something fresh. It's not a new talking point. Cashman doesn't know how to do anything but write a check.
