I get that... he doesn't make EVERY call but this is a video game team. They literally throw darts at a board of all-stars to choose who they bring in.
You can make the point without going to such an extreme that you undercut yourself.
Who are these dart-board all stars? Kuroda, the
#3 starter from a non-playoff team? Nova, a homegrown, inconsistent pitcher? Russell Martin, a reclamation project? Andruw Jones, the definition of
? A past his prime, part time playing Raul Ibanez? Robbie Cano, a homegrown all star? Curtis Granderson, a player who was scuffling and came at the price of two excellent prospects? The left side of the infield, who are collectively 745 years old? Pineda, who cost the Yankees their most valuable prospect and didn't pitch an inning? Freddy Garcia, who is Freddy Garcia? Andy Pettite, who was retired, then had a broken leg? Oh, you must be talking about Ichiro, who is old and broken down and had an obp under .300 for a good chunk of the season in Seattle. Ladies and gentlemen, the embarrassment of riches is impossible to comprehend.
This is probably the worst season to make that kind of claim. Cashman made a slew of savvy moves this season, and this team had no business winning the most games in the AL and making it to the ALCS.
The team is pretty much THE model of excellence and consistency in professional sports. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest payrolls this year didn't even make the playoffs.
