While Scarface had more character development, Carlito's Way has more heart. He was a gangster trying to get out, in Scarface he's a small time hustler trying to stay in for good. Carlito is more endearing, he has a girl who loves him, people who respect him, but his mercy made him soft , at least soft enough to not kill Benny. In Scarface he just goes out of control and becomes/stays a major douche. Charlie is more likeable, the movie, that much more dreary and filled with more suspense. You feel bad for Carlito, you don't ever feel bad for Tony, you just know he's gonna go out guns blazing.

He didn't come back to life. He killed the assassin with the shotgun before he got him.
As far as the flicks go, Carlitos Way is a superior film to Scarface. I can watch it every time it comes on. I just can't do that with Scarface. I think it's ok at best.

Scarface is one of the most overrated movies I’ve ever seen. Hasn’t aged well and has the depth of a gnat.
Carlito’s Way is way better and it’s not like that movie was an amazing spectacle either.
