She was "officially" signed less than a year after debuting her first mixtape and only a couple weeks after the second...during a love and hiphop tenure she got with no music/apparent rap industry connection.

Compared to 2 years or less between LITERALLY just starting music to official backing from the Atlantic machine.

The first time I heard about Cardi B she was opening or hosting up for some bullshyt foam party in the Bronx. Fetty Wap was the headliner I think around the time Trap Queen first came out but before it really took off. Cardi no showed the event.

My ex used to always watch her lil funny videos off Instagram and watch L&HH. She was slowly developing her music and getting promoted by Self. The first songs I heard was Foreva and Washpoppin. I didn’t think she was gonna pop tbh saw her as novelty. But her social media following was so big that she had a ready made fanbase and was seen as the funny, crazy, ratchet, down to earth chick that ppl wanted to see win, she endeared herself with the public and woman started seeing her as empowering. When I heard Red Barz I was like shortie aight.

Bodak Yellow just had a connection with these females. They was singing that shyt word for word.
