We’ve seen YouTube and auto tune parodies turn into certified hits. We’ve seen jay-z struggle to get a #1 with all the money in the world behind him

To me, the end-all has to be the It factor. For it to perfectly align, the machine, the song and the personality all have to click. I think we've seen a lot of people get by on 2 of the 3, but most turn into 1 hit wonders. The public has to gravitate towards you, and maintaining their interest throughout time is another component. We seen plenty of songs get worked until they climbed the charts. We've seen great songs not chart or make any noise. For the general public, it matters just as much as who makes the song as it does the song itself. Two artists can make the same exact song, and the results be completely different.

Cardi B is the perfect storm of such, mostly because of her personality. And right now, she's hot. She can drop the alphabet, it'll be garbage and it'll still hit. She can't completely dismiss being manufactured, because at some point, every superstar is. The label puts the money and focus behind who they think is a superstar.
