I liked the movie alot since I went in with average expectations
It was pretty much a standard Marvel introduction movie except they didn't give us any background on Carol Danvers outside of flashbacks that didn't get any real context outside of her being tough and resilient
Fury is good, but he was mainly a useless comic relief
The skrulls were a trip I wasn't expecting, especially the scene with the memories
Maria Rambeau and her daughter were alright, but they felt like props to replace an actual background origin of Carol. Their "relationship" didn't feel real and it was awkward, but Maria does serve a purpose
Bree Larson as Captain Marvel exceeded my expectations. She showed flashes of personality and wasn't as Mary Sue as I thought going in
The action scenes and pretty much all of the off-earth stuff was dope, especially her interaction with the Kree. I wanted to see more of that honestly
The only thing I didn't like was some of the contrived agenda shyt.
All of the men in the movie, besides the Skrull leader, have 1 dimension. Captain Marvel as a character is already OP levels, but they didn't have to make every guy look bone-headed, especially Fury
Dudes were just evil and ain't-shyt for no reason in some of the flashbacks and other parts only to serve the purpose of exalting the female leads
Another thing was Maria Rambeau being a single mother out in the backwoods of Louisiana with no mention or anything of Monica's father
It wasn't enough to take me out of the movie, but they poured it on too thick in parts
All in all, I enjoyed the movie and actually look forward to her in the MCU
the movie was a 7.5/10
I'll probably go again for a matinee later on next week
Don't even bother going to Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB
Just go see it for yourself
The neckbeards and feminists are playing tug of war and it's really doing the movie a disservice as far as honest, fair criticism
Edit:
I forgot the opening tribute to Stan Lee got an ovation in theater
They are minor. The Tesseract being in this movie doesn't create a plot hole in Captain America The First Avenger or The Avengers. At the end of Captain America: TFA, Howard Stark recovers the Tesseract at the bottom of the ocean. In Captain Marvel, Fury is let into Project Pegasus, "If that's the wrong name, well I'm horrible with name," with a thumb scan. They also have a Quadjet, which it's probably safe to assume is the model before the Quinjet. So it's all S.H.I.E.L.D. related. Howard gets the Tesseract in the 40's. S.H.I.E.L.D. is established, where he's not only a member, but Stark Industries also develops weapons and tech for the government. He probably knew Jennings (Mar-Vell), and she could have even worked for him for years. It's entirely possible that Jennings got the Tesseract from Howard. Plus, they would have known that it could power weapons from whatever Armin Zola told them of the Red Skull's research.
BREHS! The Tesseract appearing and being used in the 90’s messes up Avengers continuity, didn’t it? I thought Shield found Cap AND the tesseract in 2012 aka The start of Avengers. Plus in Avengers, Fury acted like he ain’t know what the Tesseract was.....also all humans who handled the Tesseract in Avengers had gloves or tongs.....In Captain Marvel, Nick Fury grabbed it with his bare hands! Captain Marvel opened a whole new can of worms
That's the same argument all the white girls were making Like I said I can't wait for the moment when all these women start writing op-ed pieces about how this movie is more historically significant than Black Panther, then I want ya'll to keep that same energy for this film
The winning streak Marvel been on right (an 11 years 20+ movies streak not 2 years 2 movies) now is crazy. They weaker movies are equivalent to their comps best:frank2:
