She's just never been interesting to me because always felt like a "just there" character that they tried to make into their version of Wonder Woman. Her comic is continuously one of the lowest selling, and the whole Civil War II debacle only made things worse. I've always felt that when they finally introduced a mega female character it would be She-Hulk, but i'm not sure if she's completely off limits or if she has the same deal as Hulk.
Fair points and most comic fans probably agree (I do, I didn't like Civil War II as a whole anyway), but from a movie perspective and an addition to the MCU, I think it should work because:
1. You said it in that line, "female version of Wonder Woman"; with WW success, despite the failure of DCEU, Captain Marvel should do well given the host of supporting characters we've already been introduced to and the desire for more female heroes
2. Take your comic book fan hat off for a second and look at it from Disney's perspective; there's far more general movie fans/MCU fans than there are fans like you and I who want the comic purity. Captain Marvel gives them their Wonder Woman (female lead hero)/Superman (biggest gun vs Thanos)/Green Lantern (space cadet hero for a another cosmic based film).
That's why I think it'll work.
I will say tho, others have said it, there isn't anything about Brie Larson that screams Captain Marvel at me. I don't care about the "not smiling", I think her hair is what isn't working for me; the shorter haired look would've worked more with the intense face she's going for, I think!
