"The idea that there is a _third_ system -- between socialism and capitalism, as its supporters say -- a system as far away from socialism as it is from capitalism but that retains the advantages and avoids the disadvantages of each -- is pure nonsense. People who believe there is such a mythical system can be really poetic when they praise the glories of interventionism. One can only say they are mistaken. The government interference which they praise brings about conditions which they themselves do not like."
- Ludwig von Mises

He isnt very popular around here, but he is on point here.:wow:

He's an idiot.

and communism always leads to corrupt regimes
ALL THINGS LEAD TO CORRUPTION...
think about it.

Name ONE man made system of control that doesn't eventually lead to corruption. Religion, system of governance, systems of economy. From giant governments to small mom and pop businesses over time it's human nature to "beat" everyone else in order to do that people will lie, steal and kill.

There's one important step missing.

0. LargeCorp becomes large enough to gain the monopoly power necessary to successfully lobby the government. This part happens naturally in an unrestricted market.

Step 1 needs editing, because companies that can't compete don't have lobby power. That's a fantasy that disguises the real complications at work.

American antitrust law basically acknowledges that the goal of every individual firm is monopoly...and monopolies themselves are not illegal if based on superior quality of goods and services.

there is nothing inherently wrong with a natural monopoly, and anyone breaking the law should be punished for doing so... at least thats how i figure justice should work.

Yes, but my point is that if we ACCEPT the premise that the goal of every firm in a capitalist society is to be a monopoly, that means the incentive to illegally attain or maintain said monopoly will be omnipresent in the corporate world.

That's a bit different than "capitalism = corporatism", but the idea that the two are intertwined to some degree isn't wrong. Private parties who restraint competition need to be punished, and ACTIVELY. That's something capitalism hasn't always done effectively, and I say that being a general cheerleader of all things capitalist. :manny:

Absolutely, and we should hold every firm that breaks the law accountable.

Its the move towards prevention(regulation) that I disagree with, not the reality of the situation.

:leostare:

I see what you did there...

edit: i'm for less laws then :manny: something that will no doubt begin to spiral this thread who knows where :whoo:
it doesn't have to spiral anywhere the fact is that true capitalist have divorced themselves from reality and exist in a theoretical world. IN THEORY unfettered capitalism is the bee's knees, in reality it leads to corruption of both capitalism and government.

You don't have to have a true capitalist society to know what's going to happen anymore than i need to stick my hand in a running lawn mower to find out what will happen.
