I was always impressed with Canibus as a writer. He was never just forcing syllables & words together to make a rhyme, and if you look at the lyric sheet & take the time to break it down it’s clear he has at least has a cursory understanding of the concepts he conveys in his songs. I don’t think there’s some grand, “deep” meaning there - just a guy trying to push the boundaries of language in a rap & flex his well rounded knowledge. But there’s definitely nuggets that will make you pause & rewind. The “lyrical miracle spiritual” shyt is kind of a joke, but to do what Canibus did is a lot fukking harder than it looks. It’s not overlaying research paper text over a beat.
First of all, Bis is a legend. He may not be a huge name overall, but there is a story to be told about his time as one of those head turning, song stealing MC's, he created moments that everybody that was connected to the culture felt in real time. He couldn't ride the fence and that's okay. As long as that nikka ain't assed out on the streets, he should feel proud of himself and his craft. fukk the rap "game".
Like a lot of Canibus shyt, it's a combo of dope shyt spit with a good delivery and some cringy try hard gibberish that didn't age well IMO. "Automated overbite" for instance, shyt just sounds goofy lol.
Well Canibus isn't/wasn't exactly Jay-z or somebody, lol. He did get the respect of slaughtering someone who a lot of people revered and looked at as the quintessential, perfect "battle" rapper, in terms of how he rapped.
