being not relatable, a loser is why his career fizzled true story

industry didn't do shyt to him, matter fact he was highly assisted and valued for the type of music he made not even nikkaz like Big L or anyone else ever got on just on pure spitting. Granted he had that run of killer features to build a buzz on.

Canibus failed to connect on a real human level and would go on to be symbolic of a lot of rappers that couldn't bridge the gap between being dope and having dope relateable content

his debut album failed to live up to his huge hype and the follow up did too even though it was marginally better it showed that he wasn't a main stay. BUT true hollywood stories was the end of his above ground exposure. he went out terribly on that album. weirdo status on all levels. in an alternate universe if Canibus bodied Eminem he would have had a great career. he not only failed he didn't show up. he became stan... nobody wanted to be near dude for a while after that

Sidenote

You remember that file that was floating all over the early years of the internet that was titled Eminem battled canibus and the snippet had Eminem spit a crazy round and guy that just sounded like canibus coming in at the end of the snippet saying give me the mic?

:mjlol: had everyone thinking they really battled and em smoked him lol

its just unfortunate, as a guy who wanted to rap back in the day canibus on those mixtapes and files that i downloaded off kazaa (lol) were golden for me.

but to be honest even his 2nd effort was just ok. the truth is although he was probably one of the best mcs of that era, it really just wasnt a place for him in the music industry that was beginning to get more into platinum single thing and how do you market him to a mainstream audience that really didnt care about lyrics?if he was white like eminem he sells multi plat

if canibus came out today he would be a millionaire with freestyles of his likely going viral and him being able to move himself independently but the independent game was so dead back in canibus time especially as the internet began to come in.
If you think Canibus came out at the wrong time in 98 then I can't see how you feel good about him doing so 20 years later when using unique words and an actual rap delivery is looked down on. He'd be at UPS today.

He wouldn't have mainstream success

But he would have internet success based on the level of his freestyles. Plenty of guys who have no singles no albums no main stream exposure but have millions of views on Facebook and Instagram and earning a living doing appearances and selling merchandise social media created a lane for independent artist.

And none of them are close to lyrically inclined as Canibus, and what you described doesn't spell millionaire rapper. People don't understand how lofty that actually is.

Canibus failed to connect on a real human level

Its this for me.

Its good to be able to rap your ass off and come up with some clever lines.

But he took himself way too serious (has anyone seen a photo of him smiling?)....

He lacked character.

He lacked humour.

He lacked the ability to stir up any emotions in his music.

Too many big words for the average fans to digest

I understand Canibus wants to stay pure with the music as well as others, so in that case don’t signed to majors and try to release albums to the world

u trying to sell records u have to keep shyt basic for these rap audiences
