IMO 4-5 seasons is a healthy amount. I don't need a long runner since most shows go doodoo after 5. I only get tight when a show gets clapped on a crazy cliffhanger like Angel or Dark Matter :mjcry:

Things will be fine as long as Netflix formats for a 1-3 season run or a mini/limited series style.

That Dark Matter cliffhanger pissed me the fukk off!!!:pacspit:

Honest question: how many new subs do new Netflix shows get?

damn near everyone has Netflix already that’s in their target demo, and someone joining a $10-15 a month subscription to watch a new show seems kinda far fetched to me. If you’re getting Netflix it’s to get access to everything.

I’m sure there are rare cases where a new show may just push someone over the top to subscribe, but it seems like they just don’t wanna pay season 4 salaries.

They've basically reached maximum penetration, so I agree that it wouldn't make sense to not try to cut costs

:dwillhuh: Confused as to why Dark is mentioned since I don't believe it was cancelled.

The rest makes sense tho. Diminishing returns and all that. I'm sure if a show was a breakout hit like Stranger Things Netflix would happily keep it running as long as possible.

This is what killed Lost. That could've been GOAT show if they weren't basically throwing shyt against a wall in the final two seasons

Interesting you mention Lost since Damon Lindelof claimed Lost was originally supposed to be around 3 seasons but ABC wanted to extend the series for much longer.

Netflix is in a different position than the other content creators. Disney isn’t going to make a Turkish Disney series or a Brazilian witch Disney series.

Disney,WB, Amazon,Peacock are asking the world to consume Americanized(a bit British) culture which limits their growth overseas.
If Netflix becomes a reliable content maker for different countries it can continue to out pace anything the others can.
