The dumb logic of needing an assault rifle/guns for protection is that if you ever need one for self defence, 80 percent of the time, it's too late because a Mofo already has his gun pointed at you and it's too late to reach for yours majority of the time.
Home invasion is the only scenario where you have the time to reach for your gun, which again is rare because
what if a armed burglar pops up on you while you are downstairs chilling and your gun is in the safe (as a responsible gun owner with kids should) upstairs and you can't get to it on time, what then?
In most scenarios, gun owners never get to use their gun for protection because it's already too late, danger comes fast at you and rarely gives you the time to reach for your gun and cock it. It's just dumb
This entire post is asscheeks.
People who carry guns are vigilant and observant. Most of them want to avoid conflict all together but will settle for De escalation. Anyone who has ever been to ccw has heard "if a guy bumps into you and says " what where your fukking going!" Or you step on their shoes, you don't challenge them, apologize attempt to keep it moving, make amends buy them a drink. Don't create a situation where now this guys going to want to fight you inside or follow you to your car and you may have to shoot them.
People without guns are the ones who get scared and freeze up, get snuck up on. Your standing in line playing candy crush oblivious to the world around you mean while I'm watch the person six 6 behind you get ready to snatch your phone and run out the door.
Your scenario of a home invasion sounds like it's in a studio apartment. They kick the door in and you're just sitting there. I have different rooms in my house, I have doors on my rooms and different floors in my house.
If I hear a window break or someone kick my door I'm not going to assume a vase fell or that there's an unexplained loud noise.
Cock it? I don't know if you know this. But a lot of people keep one in the chamber. And don't have safetys on their guns. I got no safety and I always have one in the chamber. Keep a spare mag on me too just in case I need to reload on someone's bytch ass.
If you have an upstairs and a downstairs at some point guns owners will have a gun for each floor. Plenty of Americans still keep shotguns or rifles (not "assault rifles") by their front door.
Do you have kids? Just because a child is in the same house as a fire arm doesnt mean the firearm needs to be locked up and stored away. In rural areas kids are shooting 22caliber rifles at at 8. Instead of
avoidance theory which is keeping the firearms tucked away, hiding them, never talking about them, you can actually be a parent, talk to your child. Say " this is not a toy" "don't touch this" or when they are at the age of understanding go over fire drills and escape plans. At 10 a kid can go get the gun and bring it to you or bring it to mom. Do your kids know how to dial 911 on your phone. If they can't find your phone and you're not breathing or someone kicked in the door and your kid ran outside do they know which neighbors door to go knock on? Do they know how to set the panic alarm off on your car? Do you even have a fire extinguisher in your house? Do they know where it is? Do they know how to use it? Or do you just assume it's the task and responsibility of an adult and if an adult can't do it everyone can just die.
It's actually amazing what talking to your kids, educating them and training them can do.
I’m all for gun rights but it has to be done responsibly, you don’t need an assault weapon for hunting or for sports
22 is a standand hunting round for small game. They make 22's with magazines, stocks, long barrels so they would classify under your definition of assault weapon. You realize they civilian arms aren't fully automatic or even burst fire, but single fire only. Meaning you have to pull the trigger to shoot, every time the trigger is pulled, one bullet is fired.
