There's obviously some cheapness to sudden death in the NFL, that's why they changed the rules a few years ago so a FG on the first possession doesn't end the game. But the current rules are plenty fair.

But one question. One the first possession, if the D gets s pick, what happens then?

It becomes true sudden death, the next score wins the game.

Same thing with an onside kick.

It's not about the defense being accountable . . it's unfair to give one offense a shot and not the other. This is an offensive driven game no matter what your football coach likes to say during practice

The other team also had 4 quarters to give it a shot but it ended up in a tie. However, they get an extra possession to end the match quickly. They didn't earn it, they won a coin flip. The only team that controls its destiny is the team with the ball. Giving each team a drive is only fair and the defence of the other team also then needs to play

It used to be a FG and the game would be over. If they woulda held to 3 they would've gotten a shot to match it or win.

If you can't stop an offense from going 75-80 yards in OT for a TD you don't deserve to win. Quit bytching
