'karma' theory is that the 'universe' serves up the sentence, not people consciously doing it.the "doing the work" part is "karma"
That is just revenge and has no new age mysticism behind it

This. From the buddhist literature Ive read, karma is described as the action itself and not the result of the action. But for some reason westerners have adopted karma the concept and have diefied it in an attempt to make it a weapon of God.The problem is most westerners try to look at eastern philosophy from their perspective which is based on a collection of enlightenment and judeo christian philosophy which features concepts such as crime and public punishment ,empirical wrong and right ,virtue and justice and transpose those directly onto eastern philosophy .
Its not that Karma doesnt exist...you really just dont understand what it is.
yep - It sells. as with all the other :larry:pseudoscienceThis. From the buddhist literature Ive read, karma is described as the action itself and not the result of the action. its talked about today because these fairy tales are 'for sale'. It's the ultimate cultural appropriation and religious pimpery.the law of karma simply says action applied with intention leads to consequences
that's basic universal law. For a while I couldn't wrap my head around the idea due to prejudices from growing up in a western society. Dependent origination was another that took a while for me to come to it
but that's the point for me, we come to these realizations that people who devoted their lives to understanding themselves tell us. It's all in the wide open
it begins to make sense as the idea that we are separate, long-lasting entities (a person) weakens. if you have room from the beginning you can get with it, but ultimately karma is written about to learn how to be free from karma
so again if karma is simply action applied with intention, to be free from karma is another way of pointing towards the idea of an intentionless life
that is a wonderful way to go through life. which is why these things are even talked about to begin with
No it doesn't. The basic tenets of buddhism is that life is suffering. It's one of the only religions/philosophys that has man at the center of his salvation and not God or any other otherworldy being. The way i understand it is that karma is an action that takes you further away from your own liberation from suffering, not the result of karma.Karma also refers to judgement.
Your karma determines if you are liberated or if you face the painful cycle of life and death.
Also, the Eastern philosophy folks believe things manifest due to karma among other things.
They are no different than any other faith, instead of saying God did it they say the universe did it, its proven these ideas heavily influenced Christianity.
There are no concept of heaven, hell, or punishment/karma in Judaism. All the Jews believe in is an after life.
