I felt the same at 18 ,so I joined the marines.
its true, real life is boring and repetitive with the odd vacation here and there
in videogames you can lead troops to battle, dodge bullets, lead a team to the superbowl, dunk on lebron, battle dragons and monsters, drive any car you want and crash it out, fight aliens etc.
people who say get a hobby, is video gaming not a hobby? It's probably one of my favorite hobbies that I have.
I miss games that I used to just get lost in, games like Ocarina of time, FF 7-10, GTA, KOTOR etc.. I haven't been enthralled by a video game's storyline in a very long time (actually, I take that back, the walking dead game is pretty sick but other than that..). I don't even play single player games anymore, if it's not online/competitive its usually
I was like that too for years then I played the entire mass effect series.. starting with the first... even though it came out 6 years ago it aged pretty well... and the story is on Zelda level... it really pulls you in.

I've always had a thing for competitive gaming, @ sports so gaming was where I got that fixation. Was in Cal-I in Counter-Strike, had a 2k+ rated 5v5 team in WoW (Which was carried by me, hard to find other players good enough), I was dominant in MW, MW2 and Black Ops, my record on NBA 2k13 online is like 244-40. Competitive gaming is frustrating as fukk though, I'd be yelling at my own teammates and shyt going psycho so I knew I wasn't bout that life. But the storylines in games have been in my opinion the last few years. More emphasis is placed on competitive play/gameplay and less on story. Even the ones that focus on story haven't been too enthralling. The Walking Dead games is a good example of one that does draw me in though. I just remember how into games I would get like Final Fantasy and Zelda. I'd be dungeon deep in Zelda late on a saturday night.. it felt so real brehs, maybe I need to do mushrooms and play video gamesIm the opposite when it comes to the bolded. Im one of the few people I know that doesn't care about multiplayer at all. I agree with everything else you said though. There are a few games that pull me in with the single player.
