I'm not sure DC cares. They themselves prefer Batman and that's the character that continues to bring them the most dough.
Of course they care breh. Or at least they should. 2 cash cows > 1.

Cap was a square in the comics growing up. MCU made him cool. They also made Iron Man a top tier character.

Fox made XMEN a bunch of emos when they were always the coolest characters growing up.

DCU is a failure so far. But their animated is piff. And their television live action is great too.

Superman is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time, no debate, but that said, he doesn't really appeal or speak to a lot of people who are growing up in these times. Out of the big 3, he's one that has had the most trouble maintaining relevancy in pop culture. They had the chance to revitalize him with Superman Returns but that film ended up being incredibly bland and poorly received which hurt things even more.

and really a lot of people just prefer more flawed, grounded, characters nowadays.

MOS had an opening weekend take of 114 million dollars.

someone pointed this out a while ago and made a good post on it but it was ignored because we have a host of irrational marvel haters/ conspiracy theorists.

marvel made a boring character likable in modern day and dc made a boring character boring in a new way
That was me :wow:

In a way, this is very telling of the contrast between Marvel and DC's decision making so far.

Both companies had this stereotypically boring goody-to-shoe "boy scout" hero that's supposed to be the numero uno of their cinematic universes... but that the mainstream generally :russell: about, for the same reasons they also boo John Cena.

In contrast, both companies had this billionaire playboy + billion dollar box office a$$hole who the general public embraced, adored and elevated as the true number one.

And so, the way Disney used RDJ/Iron Man to lowkey elevate Chris Evans in those Avengers movies + what the Russo bros did with CA:TWS & CW... they just made a blonde blue-eyed cac dressed in red white and blue with the name "captain a-mmurrica" not be some corny, forced white-privileged political agenda for social media to destroy.. They made him "cool" on a global scale, and the face of the Avengers now.. all without damaging the brand of their og cash cow Iron Man. Very impressive.

On the flip side, WB didn't really do Superman any favors. Bats basically had Superman beat and begging, plus had the best fight scenes, cool moments, saved martha, and now gets to be the one who assembles and leads the justice league. Whereas Superman is 6 feet under with nothing but a pity party for his emo efforts.
