Can Villains truly be redeemed?

Kinda like Goku throwing Cell a senzu bean? Or him allowing Frieza to power up to 100%? Or him letting the fate of the world rest in the hands of an 11 year old? Gohan is a millennial disappointment, he doesn't bear mentioning. Fact is, guys who only care about fighting the strongest only save Earth because its there, not that they give af. Goku's character in the manga ain't a hero of justice, he literally just wants to fight strong guys. Not too mention him telling Krillin to let Vegeta live in the first place!

Toriyama missed the boat not passing the torch. Made Gohan a bytch instead. I hate it when creators are too tied into legacy characters and won't allow progression. Gohan should have succeeded Goku, Bats should've passed the cowl to dikk and Spidey should be settling down having kids while mentoring Miles.

Yeah I feel u. I think I read on another forum that DBZ was actually supposed to end with the Cell Saga. That's why some fans downright hate the Buu saga. Toriyama does play favorites with his characters tho lol

Yea, as much as I dislike Naruto, at least the creator was willing to pass the torch to a new generation of characters. I also read that DBZ was supposed to end after the Cell Saga but Toei was too busy seeing dollar signs. Toriyama just used Vegeta as a plot device lol. But I think Vegeta said it best during his face off with Moro, "at the end of the day, I'm a villain and I've been prepared to go to Hell." Yea, he's done some heroic things, but his atrocities don't get wiped away because he's punching evil people now. He's got to carry that weight.

Nah they're not like wrestlers, movies require a solid heel. The last movie I saw that tried to redeem the villain was the last fast movie and that Hobbs and Shaw shyt and it was so damn corny

Successfully redeeming a villain depends on what evil shyt the villain has done and even more importantly what evil shyt has the villain done onscreen/on the page to characters that people like.

In the case of Negan, his redemption arc will never work because we saw him sadistically murder several of the show's heroes and then spend several season torturing the rest of the heroes on the show. Fans will never forget that so no matter how hard TWD tries (and they having been trying like a motherfukker) Negan's past will never be put in the past so he can be the hero the show so desperately wants to make him out to be.
