Got to season 2
Got tired did the annoying ass wife
Stopped watching that garbage
Still don't get the Wire hype either *ducks tomatoes*
A LOT of the praise was based on hidden gemsI'm in the middle of Season 4 and while the show is intriguing and has a very complex storyline, I find myself getting frustrated at all the loopholes in this show. There's so many things that don't really add up and it can be down right annoying getting through an episode because of how much this show reeks of white privilege. It's cool but the way people were talking about it over the past couple of years, I was expecting way more, especially to be in 4 seasons. I started watching it at the end of September on Netflix and binge watch a few episodes here and there. I'm not saying it's bad, but I'm saying its way less than what I expected. So far 3 out of 5 stars generously.
the wire was one of the most cricitally acclaimed shows of all time DURING IT'S RUNIt's a result of people binge watching it once it came out on Netflix around its fourth season. People like nothing more than feeling like they're a part of something and are "in the know". They got to watch the final couple of seasons (the ones also considered the best) in real time and that upped the hype incredibly. You add in a crowd pleasing finale and it's only normal people would hold the show in high esteem, regardless of if it actually deserves it. The majority of people who tout The Wire as the GOAT (which it is) didn't watch it live. Hence why it didn't win any Emmy's and wasn't hyped up during its run
Also it sets up everything with Prop Joe,Stringer and the Co Op. Avon locked up Stringer selling weak shyt but The Greek being Joe connect Joe being smart knows Stringer needs his dope to stay afloat. Joe sees this as a chance to focus on business not bullets because Avon not around. Joe basically got all the big time dealers together to share in the good dope The Greek was bringing in without firing a shot. Avon gets out and he and Marlo start making it too hot to operate so Joe and everyone on the Co OP decide if the shyt don't stop they cutting String and Avon out which leads to String calling Colvin to get Avon sent back to prison all to save his spot getting The Greek's good shyt. The second season was the close to being the best by far. It explained how true kings ran things, not arguing over fukking corners , that season villain the Greek was so business minded and connected that to this day I don't we have seen a match for him. The man had an federal connect, not a fake small guy but a huge man in the department . He did business with the Colombians and let 15 million dollars in Coke get seized when they got greedy. They didn't show us meeting them but they ran the Coke trade also. Listening to Vondas ask for the chemicals and you hear the amount he needed, the man needed tons to cut the dope show how they rolled. When they had to leave he was up and running in a week, he knew when to walk and then two years he back like nothing happened. But on the Coli Bodie and Poot would run him if Avon gave the word . The Greek is the best villain of all time and that arc was incredible.
