Ice Ice baby is one of the GREATEST hip hop songs...Based on the numbers...And it's one of my favourite joints...

I like MCs who rhyme when the snare hits...Chuck D's rhyming is off to me...I can't stand it, and I don't care about the "message"...

If you take away the 'message' and 'pioneer' factor, what separates Chuck D from a Ballout or a Tadoe...

If Chuck D was releasing his first album next week Tuesday, I don't think many people will be lining up to buy it based on the delivery...

His a pioneer who could only be successful because he got lucky to be in the right place at the right time....That's why they didn't survive the 90's...They couldn't keep up with the new breed of MCs...

Yet, 90s rappers are still way BETTER than the new dudes coming out....

chuck d rhymes all the time on the snare if u know about bar measures and time signatures whcih i assume u don't know then u would know that.

Heres a better question. Why should anyone try and explain anything to somebody who clearly thinks they know it all?
If you think Chuck D can't rap, which you clearly don't, what does anyone gain in trying to convince you otherwise?
(1) I don't know it all, and I have never made that claim...

(2) A lot of new rappers get criticized for "not knowing how to rap" because they are off beat, and I just wanted to read EXCUSES people have for giving Chuck D a pass for clearly being off beat almost all the damn time...

For example, if I make a statement like "Chuck D can't rap because he is off beat" I get Neg Reps, but the same people neg repping will be in a GBE thread complaining about "all these off beat drill rappers are ruining hip hop"...

This behaviour is VERY INTERESTING to me...

(3) There is VERY LITTLE to gain having a discussion on an internet forum...We are here just to argue for the sake of arguing for its entertainment value...However, these discussions can expose us to new music and ideas...

In conclusion,
By asking these questions I get to read other people's opinions and re-evaluate my own understanding of what makes a great MC, and ultimately, it helps me enjoy a wider range of rapping styles...

When I started listening to hip hop, I was strictly 2Pac and Bone Thugs N Harmony (for the most part), but by participating in these kinds of discussions, it helped me learn to appreciate other variety of rappers ...

14 years ago, there WAS NO WAY IN HELL I could be a Chief Keef fan...I wasn't even a Nas, Jay Z, Mobb Deep, Lox and etc fan...Through years of discussions in the Nas BBS, I eventually learned to start appreciate different styles for what they are...

This is my intelligent reason for doing this, the other part is just mindless entertainment...

OK, I thought you were trolling

You seem like a young cat, so you might not really have the context to understand what made PE great. I would check out Chuck D's Combat Jack interview for a primer.

But Chuck D wasn't some technically brilliant rapper... nobody ever claimed he was. However, he had content. Same way 2Pac wasn't a super great rapper... I mean he stayed on beat, he had flows, but his main draw was his content and the energy he brought to records and the game.

Criticisms of Keef not beign able to stay on beat are legit, because his content sucks. That whole drill rap movement... the whole basis of the style sounds like a kid struggling to read out loud in class. And the content is horrible, both lacking in depth and also really negative and depressing. So to me it makes sense. You are just looking at the criticisms out of context

do u know what a bar of music is because if u don't then there is no need for me to continue this converstation with you.
Hip Hop for the most part is in a 4/4 time signature...It is Boom Bap Boom Bap...

Rappers sound good to my ears when they rhyme on the "Baps"...Sometimes rappers rhyme on the "Boom" and I don't mind that too much, but my ears like to hear the rhyme on the "bap"...

Chuck D is all over the place in too many instances...Listen to the song that was posted, sometimes he hits the "bap" then he hits the "boom" then a word just ends in between...That's off beat to me...

Compare that "Can't Truss It" song to Prodigy on GOD Pt 3...Prodigy sounds more polished and seasoned as an MC....No wonder those 80's rappers got washed up real quick...A new and better beast came to town...

ok u know what u talking about now chuck d would place his rhymes on many different parts of the bar measures and not all beats go like kick snare and kick snare it depends on the instrumental of the beat and the syllable count in the line and not all time signatures are 4/4 some are different.

All BS aside...

Can this man rap..?

Tell me what makes a good rapper to you and give me an example of a good rapper (other than Chuck D), and I will use it as a template to judge Chuck D as a rapper...

I don't care about hip hop before Doggystyle (except for 2Pac) that's the context from which I am coming from...That's why I am asking for an example of a good rapper so we can compare it with Chuck D...

This dudes really can't rap...Vanila Ice on "Ice Ice Baby" is a better rapper than Chuck D has ever and will ever be..

Put all the "he is a legend" ear plugs away and tell me is "technically" speaking (to use Coli Lingo) if Chuck D is a good rapper...
So you're more concerned with flow then. Rap is more than just having a flow. Never mind that Vanilla didn't write those raps... By your logic then any rapper with a ghost writer and ill flow is better than chuck D but unfortunately flow is just one aspect of rap.

Maybe you should have studied what rapping encompassed before asking this question because its a lot more than just riding a beat...:snoop:

EXACTLY.. see how these nyggas view the actual content these days. No mention whatsoever about what Chuck was bringing during that movement. These nyggas too dumb to just go back and really listen and study music. Most ignorant generation of hip hop listeners.

P.E. is dope...but the sound is a little bit dated...I could see why a kid wouldnt be into them.

Ice Cube is one of my GOATS...but I couldnt imagine a kid liking Amerikkas Most.
