cyberpunk would’ve been the first traditional RPG I completed if I didn’t get turned off by the technical issues that literally prevented me from playing the game, but prior to the overwhelming glitches I was enjoying the story, atmosphere, gameplay

mass effect legendary edition was the first RPG series that I completed…loved it

even andromeda wasn’t bad but bcuz it falls under the mass effect umbrella it was rightfully scrutinized heavily…if it was called some other shyt like “space quest” then folks would’ve probably been more receptive to the game

anyway…not a fan yet of RPGs that offer a magical/fantasy element but I would like to know if there are any other decent science fiction RPGs?

I have fallout 3, new vegas and 4 as well as the outerworlds so I’m aware of those

Fallout 4 is easily my most played game of the gen. Beat it multiple times on PS4, PC, and X1. If you've got a PC or Xbox I'd play it on there for the mods. PS4 has some mod support but it's severely gimped compared to xbox.

Mods give you all the extra content and gameplay tweaks you could ever need to make the game play however you like, which is one of the series biggest strengths IMO

Outer Worlds is great too although it's a AA game so its not as "big" or as refined as fallout. Still an awesome SciFi RPG tho

Deus Ex series. I wasn't really feeling them but alot of people fukk with them.

Nier Automata is science fiction its kinda more of an action RPG though.
I second Deus Ex. It's an action-RPG with stealth incentives.

I don't know how much you can tolerate "old games", but the first Deus Ex is still the best game ever made in my opinion, and since it's kinda ancient, it runs easily on PC even with the latest graphical mods (and it's inexpensive).

20 years later and it's still considered as one of the GOAT rpg.

If you want something something that is more recent but still pretty dope, Deus Ex Human Revolution is also great (didn't play the last Deus Ex yet but I heard it was good as well).

Deus Ex (the original and the new releases - never play Invisible War. ever.) still hold up.

I really wouldn't recommend Fallout to you breh. If meaningless treks and busy work for paper thin characters bored you, Fallout 3/4/NV gonna take you for a 30 hour spin til you one day realize that sifting through garbage for some ain't shyt faction is simply tiresome.

The Shadowrun games are free on PC right now and even a toaster could run them. They're all good but Shadowrun: Hong Kong is amazing. Star Wars: The Old Republic games are all solid too.

I'd give some of the fantasy games a go though. The biggest wall or hurdle with fantasy games is that they kinda give off the feeling of "magic solves everything" and push nameless kingdoms/races that you'll never care about. And imo that shyt happens in all genres - a well written game is a well written game tho :manny: give pillars of eternity, dragon age, banner saga, etc a shot. if you hate-played andromeda knowing it was gonna be trash, may as well go out on a limb for games outside of your usual likes when you know they're gonna be legit

Like I know you'd LOVE Tyranny @surf

Y’all are starting to mention shadow run and stuff now, which although they were sci-fi (cyberpunk) rpgs, they play entirely different than mass effect. At least with Deus Ex and Fallout the gameplay is somewhat within the same realm.

Shadowrun series are isometric, lore/reading heavy, turn-based games. Same with Banner saga (my favorite of everything mentioned in this thread), Pillars, Divinity, etc. a completely different realm of RPG, hardcore table top inspired stuff here.

Also KoTOR...i doubt anyone playing that TODAY is gonna enjoy it. Even though it has the mass effect/BioWare DNA its incredibly ancient feeling. I played it in like 2016 and it felt dated.

Fallout isn’t a streamlined good character driven story like mass effect but gameplay wise and by @surf metrics its the only thing that comes relatively close.

nah it doesn’t have to be like ME1-3 per se

I realize that’s pretty much in a class of its own at this point

just interested in any sci-fi RPG with a decent story where your choices have some impact

If you’re willing to pivot to something entirely different gameplay wise, thematically Shadowrun is what you’re looking for.
