Can any Jay Z fans come in here and explain to me why he’s the goat?

He aint my goat. Not even in my
Top 5.

But i cam see how others can
See him in that light. his pen game is elite. Ear for beats is top tier. Obviosuly 2-3 classic albums. Sales of course. Major collabs. Many hits. Longevity. Peer admiration.

He is the quintessential commercial hiphop artist. He does mainstream rap very well.

But jay, oddly enough like his wife, lack soul. They lack vulnerability. They lack perspective. And opinion in musical form.

4:44 was an attempt to that. But it wasnt his peak performance lyrically. Wish it would have been a theme throughout his career.

College Dropout still sounds good
So does Supreme Clientele

I could name a lot more hip hop albums from that time period that aged better than Jay's old albums

There are people, even Kanye fans who think College Dropout aged horribly.

The "aging" argument on this board laughable. That argument can be applied to any music you don't like as much now as you did back when it dropped. It means absolutely nothing other than you grew out of the sound or out of that particular album, artist, song, etc. Doesn't mean it holds true for the rest of the world.

Jay played the game right

1. Created his own label with help from Dame and Biggs

2. Released an album every year from 1996-2003.

3. Diversified his business portfolio outside of rap and is highly successful

4. Laid low and didn’t crash out after he stabbed Un.

5. Took his loss to Nas like a man and came back better. Drake should have took notes from when Jay released BP2.

6. He didn’t hate on the South.

Gave UGK a lifeline with Big Pimpin and had cats in the east checking for their stuff.

One of the only NY artists to collab with both No Limit & Cash Money.

Signed Rick Ross and Jeezy to Def Jam

Hov isn't my GOAT, but he's easily in my Top 10.

Dude had one of the most impactful careers in Hip Hop, EVER!! A lot of iconic and classic sh*t came through him being in the game. That's undeniable. Anybody fronting on that is just hating. Jay did a lot of great sh*t for the culture.

Nas is my favorite rapper but I’m not afraid to give Jay his props…

Jay had a dope work ethic for a rapper that could have been Lil Cease status if his friend was still alive.

Jay impressed me as a kid when he looked for Sean Bell’s family
