Can any Jay Z fans come in here and explain to me why he’s the goat?

Jay-Z made his own table and ran his own house.... his come up is actually a great story for cable.

He managed to stay relevant since I was a baby.

I've never heard a wack Jay-Z verse in my life.

I don’t get this at all, somebody break this down for me :why:

- consistent high record sales
- real respect from real emcees
- married to Beyonce and manages an in tact family
- kept his nose clean in terms of jail time
- can actually write
- multiple Grammy awards
- found a way to work the club's and the streets that worked. Dope club music
- longevity - that 4:44 album was near perfect and boom bap at it's core
- not a drug addict
- literally came from nothing, from Marcy projects in Brooklyn - most people never get out the hood let alone major success
- he's healthy
- he's a great leader
- he overcame dealing with Dame Dash with proven success afterwords
- he's actually a deep thinker and an intellectual if you check his interviews
- he's an inspiration overall
- he acknowledged Kool Keith in the Source magazine as an artist with a strong fanbase for the long term
- he has a golden era classic - Reasonable Doubt
- created the Blueprint - which to me is the first adult hip hop record and let us live hip hop in later life - not regard it as a young man's craft
- he beefed with Nas head on, and Nas is a very difficult opponent. Very.

And I did not like Jay Z up untill around 2015 really.

He's Feeling it video got play on Toronto t.v when it dropped but I wasn't feeling it.

I thought he didn't take off in Toronto in the 90s.

Only for him to pack stadiums here.

I look at reality. When I went to Las Vegas in 2017 - I saw those Jay Z - 4:44 wrapped double decker buses weaving through the strip - with my own eyes - in reality - and that's facts.

Jay-Z is not the GOAT rapper, hes the best rapper in the same way Mayweather is the best boxer.
Jay-Z and Mayweather built their careers around maximizing profits and eliminating risk.
From a fan standpoint, risk = entertainment so they can never put Jay-Z in the GOAT category because he's boring and predictable.

I could give you plenty of reasons, with none having to do with his money, Beyonce, or anything else that has nothing to do with his skills, but your mind is clearly already made up, so there’s no point.

The better question is why does it bother you cats so much that people have an opinion that differs from yours? One could name anybody that’s ever spit a verse as the GOAT instead of Jay, and it wouldn’t bother me one bit. :jbhmm:

I feel like Jay being the “GOAT” is one of the more recently manufactured pushes I’ve seen. I’m a big Jay fan but I’m not calling him the goat anytime

Nothing about it is recent. Jay Z has been touted as a GOAT for over 20 years now. I never saw him as GOAT, but I still remember Eric Sermon on 106 & Park giving Jay that stamp. This was right before Blueprint. Then Blueprint dropped and the whispers of Jay being GOAT were screams. Then "Ether" dropped and Stillmatic and challenged that title. The push from the media really escalated with The Black Album, which dropped in the middle of 50 mania, but the media still swayed toward Jay.
