Where The Grass Is Blue
Been spending at least an hour a day doing push-ups, at least 4 days a week…and that only had me leaning out and cutting up

Definitely about to add a weighted vest into the mix

:ehh:

Functional real world strength? It may depend on your style of weight training… Benching, curls, and leg presses only make you strong at benching, curling, and doing leg presses….

Outside of benching your name in isolation exercises.

Compound exercises are better for building strength than calisthenics. If you go to the weight room of the Baltimore Ravens you'll see them squatting, deadlifting, benching, and doing Olympic lifts.

Both are for looks and strength.
When I used to lift weights more, I was a lot bigger than I am now that I just do body weight and natural workouts. However I am functionally much stronger than I was when I was lifting weights (ie real world uses of strength)

I use bands and calisthenics since covid. I don't look it but my upper body and back is stronger than when I was in the gym. And it wasn't like I was doing lights weights either. I could never do hand stand pushups when I was only throwing up 225 in the gym.

Weightlifting is definitely for strength as well. There's some weightlifting exercises for strength, like deadlifting and squats, that you just simply can't substitute with body weight training.

As I said before: a combination of calisthenics and weightlifting >>>>>>

I don't disagree with that. I still do a bit of weight training especially squats but if you are looking for functional strength calisthenics and natural workouts are the move imo

I’m mostly all calisthenics but I suggest at least adding some dumbbells in the mix too.

Calisthenics with some dumbbells with FatGripz on em is the way to go.

real men do martial arts for their cardio if we really want to go there :mjpls:

weird thread though. calisthenics with weights is literally the same as lifting weights :mjlol:

The older I get the more I realize that there are no true superior workouts……a proper diet and being active should be everyone’s goal. As long as your workouts are intense and allows progressive overload, rather it being cardio demanding or weight demanding, you are good.

I did mostly cardio for my whole life but there’s something to the power you get from lifting heavy ass weight. You physically you walk around like the hulk. Just something about carrying that size on you
