I've never lived in Virginia, only Maryland and DC but if weather's your concern then we have you covered out here. All 4 seasons like they should be.

Your son could enjoy the snow in the winter and have himself quite a few nice summers and springs. Also take the money, you'll have more of it to work with out here, I'm assuming.

I've never been to DMV and im from Cali so im biased but I think you and your son would have more opportunity in Cali. 75k will still have you living in the suburbs and cali is generally a progressive state. When I think of Virginia I think of hicks/rednecks but obviously ive never been there.
