going through the local tribal customary negotiations are best IF they can

Sanusi is an Emir of one of the foundational Hausa states (Kano).

Unsure how many of the junta are Hausa but theyā€™ll politely listen to Sanusi. Knowing Sanusi, heā€™s probably urging a democratic transition.

The junta will listen, say thank you Sarki and then send him back to Nigeria

I like most of the (woke) comments in this NL discussion. Great to see the homies using the words imperialism, slave masters, colonialism and focusing on France's (negative)history in Africa. The U.S. too. A few even have smoke for the new president of Nigeria.

Tinubu shouldn't miss this opportunity to kick them off sounds like you are misunderstanding the whole situation. The new military regime is fighting to free itself from French domination and manipulation. Tinubu is supporting that the old regime that was being controlled by France be reinstated. Therefore Tinubu is the one that is helping France achieve their aim of manipulation and domination of Africa and sponsorship of criminal activities in the West African region. Remember that Tinubu's doctors are in France. Now you know the connection. Tinubu is fighting Niger Republic for his private interest but Russia will deal with him and Nigeria together if they dare attack Niger Republic."

Update:

The leader of the Niger junta, General Abdurahman Chiani, has appointed a new transitional cabinet. The new government consists of 21 ministers, including two ministers of state and a minister without portfolio. The new transitional government, made up of military and civilians, is headed by interim Prime Minister Lamin Zein Ali Mahamane, who will also become Minister of Economy and Finance. Former chief of staff, Lieutenant General Salifu Modi, who is widely regarded as Deputy General Chiani, has been appointed Minister of National Defence. The junta has already appointed new military commanders and fired most of the senior government officials who served in the Bazum administration.

Benin Foreign Minister Olusegun Ajadi Bakary said Benin prefers a diplomatic solution to the Niger crisis over military intervention. Benin shares a border with Niger and its port, Cotonou, is the country's main link to world markets.

President of Nigeria: I am ready for negotiations with the rebel leaders in Niger

The chairman of ECOWAS, President of Nigeria Bola Tinubu announced that he is ready to meet with the rebels who have taken power in neighboring Niger, TASS reports. "We will continue to work with interested parties, including the leaders of the coup, to ensure the return of democracy as soon as possible," Tinubu said after the second ECOWAS summit. Previously, the Nigerian president, who was cited by the media as the main supporter of the intervention in Niger, called for "priority to be given to diplomatic negotiations and dialogue in order to restore constitutional authority in that country".

ECOWAS has deployed a "reserve force", likely in preparation for a military invasion of Niger.

Mali suspends visas for French citizens Mali has indefinitely suspended the issuance of visas to French nationals at its embassy in Paris, its foreign ministry has said. In a statement, it said the move was reciprocal after it ā€œlearnt with surpriseā€ that France had classified Mali to be in a ā€œred zoneā€ due to supposed "strong regional tensions".

We've been making so much progress with peace and stability in West Africa(Boko Haram aside) for years now with economies growing.

It's terrifying to think of a war on this scale, with possibility of Asian and western powers involved

War will make things worse, even after it "ends". Just more lawlessness and fractured societies.

ECOWAS orders activation of a ā€˜standby forceā€™ to invade Niger

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/10/africa/niger-ecowas-standby-force-intl/index.html

Very curious. So even after intervention by Northern Nigerian Hausa-Fulani elites, Tinubu is still pushing to invade.

Aside from the pull of imperialist backers being stronger than domestic elites, I imagine Tinubu has an axe to grind against Northern Nigeria and doesnā€™t much care for their opposition to his war. His APC party can rig again with little difficulty

The irony of dictators and electoral riggers calling for democracy to be ā€œrestoredā€ in Niger is palpably funny

But I hope they are all left with a bitter taste in their mouths

Tinubu seeks medical treatment in France for his chronic illnesses.

He also has FBI files on him from his heroin dealing days.

If he stands with Africa - he may lose out on medical care and have the Washington Post declare him a narco president

If you keep overthrowing democratically elected governments, what happens to these military generals in the future ?
