vlaar was IMMENSE but you knew he'd miss the pen. its how things work out in the world.

Mascherano ,Garay, and Zabaleta were putting everything on the line, showed a lot of heart. The Dutch did not have much to go with from an attacking standpoint and it seemed like it was lob the ball to Robben and see what he can do for them. The Argentines fixed some of the problems with defending in transition that showed up against Nigeria but their problem is Higuain is the only striker who has shown improvement from the first game. The Dutch gave them room in central midfield that they wont get against the Germans and Low seems to have finally settled on a team that works. I doubt they would get walloped in the manner of Brazil who had a freakish 20 minute period were Luiz went full retard. They will be solid but Germany have more weapons to attack them than the Dutch.

Netherlands had such a weak presence in the final third for a reason. They were swarming Messi. That is the real power of Messi especially in this knockout stage. Even if he isn't scoring, he is creating spaces in and around the opponents 18 yard box just by his presence alone. You have to tightly mark him and choke off his service to and from. If Angel Di Maria gets back and Aguero continues to recover, I don't see how Germany can defend Messi with the only strategy that has worked, putting bodies on him, and still keep the rest of Argentina's front 4 from having a party in the final third. Without Di Maria, Argentina is probably fkd. Netherlands picked their poison and gambled on a counter attack in exchange for locking down Messi. The best they could get was a shootout. Germany also like to feast on cheap giveaways in the midfield and sloppy play by the back line. Argentina keeps a tight back line and keeps possession very well whether facing high pressure or not. If you take a deep look at what they are doing defensively you will understand why they have yet to trail in a game in this WC. I think it will be a close game and Germany barely escape with the cup to the tune of 2-1 in extra time.
