Only optimism I can muster up right now going forward for this team is the fact that they'll have bread next summer...
The problem however is that the 2 larger markets (LA, NY) will have even more bread than Chicago next summer. It would be something if Chicago with enough to offer 2 max contracts was competing with lesser markets who can offer the same, but...
Houston will also have more to work with next summer. So my main optimism gets shut down rather quickly because while I want to get into #OptimisticBullsFan mode, and say we can hit a homerun next summer, I just don't see it.
I think the only way the likes of Westbrook and Blake Griffin entertain Chicago is if Jimmy Butler morphs into a top 10 player this season, and the Bulls overachieve like the Trail Blazers did last year. So these guys looking in can say, hey, I want to play with that guy Jimmy Butler.
Who on this Olympic Team that Jimmy's playing with will be up for free agency next year? Dude going have to be on full recruit/salesmen mode for this team to add some goons next season.

Even teams with a little less than space for 2 max, because so many teams have money and can absorb contracts they can easily free up cap space.
We have to over achieve and jimmy has to turn into a clear superstar in order for that cap next year to get us 2 max guys.
Jimmy would also have to show he can work alongside another ball handler, so him and rondo have to work out.

i'm watching Jimmy highlights trying to convince myself that he'll become a top 5-7 player when he has sole control of the ball and slightly better weapons to pass to (Valentine will be nice as a floor spacer and Robin Lopez can catch and finish better than any Bulls big man since......Tyrus?)

Breh this not a reality show were you hold grudges, it's business, and I'm not mad if we are at least trying. Not like we have to part with any major pieces to make it happen. Trade dunleavy to a playoff team for a 2nd rd pick, waive snell stretch calderon. And if we can get wade to sign for around 25 mill we could still have a mmle. I would be more pissed if we didn't at least try. If he says no, then meh, but if this rift is real and wade ready go bolt, us getting him puts us in a great position to go after blake next year. It's worth a shot is all I'm saying. Why are we taking this so personal. Hell it's a win win to me. If we play a part in Miami using all of their cap to retain wade and kill their chances to add anyone else, that helps us too. So use us as leverage. I'm still not convinced that jimmy can play SF effectively however because his size is gonna hurt him.
