Finally caught up with this. One thing that I appreciate is that the main character is not some kind of Kung-Fu superhero, and isn't actually even the best fighter on his own show.
1877? I didn't realize the show took place THAT far back. I always assumed the show was going to lead up to the 1906 Earthquake.

Well, that brings the Cinemax era of action series to an end. Also the era of martial arts shows on TV with Into the Badlands, Wu Assassins (briefly) and Warrior holding us down

Never got into Marco Polo, maybe because of some of those articles you mentioned.
