A body pulled from the Providence River earlier this week has been confirmed as a missing Brown University student who was wrongly rumored to be a possible suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Officials confirmed through dental records that it was 22-year-old Sunil Tripathi, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.
"We have confirmed the identity of the young man found in the water off India point in Providence," said Dara Chadwick, a spokesperson for the department. Tripathi's body was pulled from the river on Tuesday, she said.
No foul play is suspected in his death, the Rhode Island medical examiner said. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Sunil Tripathi was last seen on March 16. His name was recently tossed around in social media circles during the marathon bombings, adding to his family's anguish over his disappearance.

The amateur detective sleuths on 4Ch*n, Reddit and other social sites were so eager to demonstrate their investigative prowess in the information vacuum days following the Boston Bombing, they managed to identify virtually everyone who appeared even slightly tanned and/or had a backpack as a potential suspect. Sadly, the game, as well-meaning as it may have been, just turned lethal for one of the people who were falsely identified, as NBC just confirmed that Sunil Tripathi, 22, a former student at Brown University has been found dead in the Providence River
