And can we try to be consistent? When there is a positive aspect of culture mentioned, people guard it religiously and will shoot people who mention any outside influence that contributed to that thing..

When topic comes to a negative, like documented stories of people being bullied, now it's "oh.....it wasn't just us doing it"

Sounding like dude who set up the Warriors
cued

"no........................it wasn't us....it was them"

be consistent.

as far as the whole haitian/aa dynamic goes, if we're really being consistent, the facts are easy to pull up. The facts are, the average afram has never met a haitian (most aframs don't live in NY or Florida) and because of that, feels no type of way about them positive or negatively. While we know for a fact that entire caribean nations, both Latin and West Indian feel some type of way about Haitians even before they encounter one another on USA soil.

Thread is about, and you pulled information about , Florida though.

Your post was specifically about last names and you used the example of Miami Hurricane football players.
If we're gonna keep it consistent.

even in florida haitians got it from other west indians relates to the larger point I was making

I was making a point that many of the people in florida that you think are afram are actually bahamians/various west indians that have been here for a while so they lack obvious traits of being a foreigner. The florida football team is just a microcosm of a larger reality

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Grimey Haitians in Miami weren’t a thing until until they decided not to tolerate the BS anymore. Same as New York/Boston/Jersey.

The only island that ever brought “grimey” dudes to America was Jamaica because Jamaicans were on a mission to get all the paper they wanted to in america during the drug game.

In NYC a grimey Haitian in the 80s probably didn’t even have one Haitian friend.

100% wrong and revisionist history.

Go through the archives of the Miami Herald and read about the physical assaults on Haitians and the discrimination going on by employers and landlords.

Your theory about it all spilling out from street shyt is completely off.

They even have videos on worldstar of this happening in Jersey only a few years back

My first post in this thread was a response to what I read as another Haitian member implying that the Haitian criminal element existing as an identity crisis among young Haitians (namely them trying to fit in with young AAs). I reminded him that this Zoe shyt is just an extension of lowlife vagabon culture from Haiti .

I never hesitate to question or challenge comments that directly or indirectly disparage groups of Black people.

The dude who lied in this thread about AA/Haitian conflict emerging from street shyt and "Haitians have been mad ever since" was called out for juelzing.

I read the comments about "it was Bahamians too" as more juelzing. For reference, I posted a document about history in America of the five largest Black immigrant groups earlier in this thread. Details immigration patterns, cities of high concentration, push and pull factors etc.

Wave of Haitian immigrants coming into Florida in the 70s/80s and who would go on to spawn Zoe Pound came here during the period when media was fully going in on Haitians 24/7 as" boat people" and "Aids carriers". All documented by news broadcasts/ newspapers...so the notion that"Americans outside of FL and NYC didn't know anything about Haitians" in that era would be false, for White people and Black people.

Yes and that’s the only negative thing about diversity. Diversity tends to look ugly when one group is a newcomer or is blacker or is poorer.

After a generation or two then people accept and live together in harmony.

It’s the same way how states like Maine and Vermont are actually some of the least racist states In america. That’s because they barely have blacks and when blacks go there it’s like being a celebrity to the local whites.

My opinion is that states in the south who are used to seeing African Americans only don’t care and are interested about black students from other countries. So it makes sense why a Haitian might not get along with an AA in miami but will be viewed as a brother by an AA in Arkansas or Mississippi.

Guy in the video is dead, allegedly.

But what the video shows was reality for people. For a reference, do a search here and find threads from the last 3 years of Black kids getting insulted, called slurs, attacked, etc by white kids and administration knowing about it and doing NOTHING.

Same situation Haitian kids went through in past decades. That inaction by (Black) school officials, and people not seeming to care about those Haitian kids is what really drove the wedge between cultures in Florida....and other places.

When I was in school, there was a high school that all the "just-come" Haitian kids went to(it had bilingual programs). Those kids were food for the lowlife element who terrorized them.....until somebody's cousin came down from Brooklyn and laid one of them out in broad daylight. When that body fell, everything changed. I'm assuming the ZP had to murder some people too.

bahamians being in florida for over 150 years is facts

Bahamians began visiting the Florida Keys in the 18th century to salvage wrecked ships, fish, catch turtles and log tropical hardwood trees. A Bahamian settlement in the Keys was reported in 1790, but the presence of Bahamians in the keys was temporary. Early in the 19th century some 30 to 40 Bahamian ships were working in the keys every year. After 1825, Bahamian wreckers began moving to Key West in large numbers.[3][4] Today, the largest Bahamian American populations are in Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Miami, and New York.[citation needed]

Bahamians built and still reside in the oldest inhabited neighborhoods in Miami like Coconut Grove and Lemon City. Bahamians represented 1/3 of the vote to incorporate the area into the new city Miami

Bahamians were among the first Caribbeans to arrive to the mainland US in the late nineteenth century. Many went to Florida to work in agriculture or to Key West to labor in fishing, sponging, and turtling. Two main factors that contributed to increased Bahamian migration were the poor economic climate and opportunities, as well as the short distance from the Bahamas to Miami. Southern Florida developed Bahamian enclaves in certain cities including Lemon City, Coconut Grove, and Cutler. In 1896, foreign-born blacks compromised 40 percent of the black population, making Miami the largest foreign-born black city in the US aside from New York. Reimers claims that the restrictive immigration policy of the 1920s did not greatly affect the Bahamian émigrés, they continued to migrate in vast number to the US, however many also participated in return migration back to the Bahamas during this time period. Those who chose to remain created institutions in the U.S. During this time in Florida, black Bahamians too faced state-enforced racism. Blacks could not vote, were persecuted by epithets in Miami press, and were not allowed to stay in the hotels that employed them. And in 1921, the Ku Klux Klan staged a large rally attacking these black immigrants in Miami

Aframs outside of FL and NYC didn't know or encounter haitians to have any real opinion of them. This movie is about all they knew

unlike the latin american/west indians nations that had longer/more direct encounters with them

:patrice:

Is this valid? Was this pre Zoe Pound? And did the Haitiam criminals trying to "take over" these projects, influence greater AA resentment against Haitians?

:jbhmm:

Pre ZP, Haitians didn't have an organized or recognizable criminal outfit in Miami. There were individual major players tho, who were Haitian..

You're exactly right.

Before ZP, Haitians didn't have a recognizable criminal organization.

But that's exactly why ZP was formed.

I'm not saying they were trying to "take over" but when you making money moves in an area where the nikkas are already clicked up and eating, what you expect to happen.

Dont think of this as political. Think about how you would move if it was strictly street shyt and you saw foreigners putting in work where you already had it locked down.
