We have to see Labour in the high 30s, at least

We could be just days away from the end of the Corbyn era
:mjcry:

There's no lefty ready to step in and fill his shoes

:mjcry:

What will follow will surely be a return of Blairites

:mjcry:

As long as Jeremy was leader, there was always hope: "The right person is Labour leader, people will get sick of the Tories, his opening will come."

The opening will never be there.

Corbyn and McDonnell before the Labour leadership election in 2015. They were just trying to make a few points.

Yep, beyond the Guardian, every other newspaper seem to lean left. The Times is usually down the middle.

The problem is that the working class read the Daily Mail, and the Sun, the Mirror and the Express.

Brexit is a national agenda for the print media. I wonder how many owners in these newspapers are speculating on making money on Brexit. Obviously those stories never get published.
That said, Corbyn needs to appreciate that there is a time to be an activist, and there is a time to be a politician.

The anti semitism row has also been a bad look (and I don't blame him for that, it's agenda driven) and his recent comments on terrorist sentences was a serious own goal.

Speaking to the average middle class person they all feel like Corbyn is just going to raise their taxes which isn't even right. That's all they care about. Sometimes you need to stop focusing on too many things and get the messaging right.

Let's assume the Tories win a slim majority next week, who is prime to replace Corbyn as Leader of the Labour Party? @mitter @Fenian

John McDonnell has said it should be a woman, and Rebecca Long Bailey, Angela Rayner and Laura Pidcock are probably the favorites on the left. As a bonus, none are from London. Emily Thornberry seems a bit more "mainstream," but she's still far from a Blairite, and she's been a fairly loyal Corbyn ally. One problem with her is that she's from London.

Another idea I've heard is that Labour will have two leaders, like Greens. They'll use this to balance out gender, regions, leave/remain. Maybe a bad idea since it doubles down on their "fence sitting" problem.

Moving beyond left-leaning women, Keir Starmer is mentioned as someone who seems credible and could unite all wings of the party. Like Thornberry, he's seen as more mainstream than the favorites of the left, but he's still been loyal to Corbyn.

I'm sure the Blairites will put forth their candidates. The commentators will mention lames like David Miliband. I'm sure people from the 2015 contest like Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall will be mentioned again. Sadiq Khan could get some support.
