Truly the gift that keeps on giving :mjcry:

It also has very little gas storage after the last facility was closed by Centrica in 2017.
I still don't know why this happened tbh, like zero long-term planning

The last paragraph is interesting too. Net exporter yet its citizens are paying through the nose :why:

Last country I expected the Russian invasion to affect is the UK. I don't think any of our energy comes from Russia, still inflation fukked us harder than the EU.

Kent is still facing a post-Brexit jobs shortage with 'more vacancies than people'

Several industries and businesses across the county say they are struggling to recruit following the government's new immigration rules

Concerns have been raised over a job skills shortage in Kent following Brexit. Economic experts and Kent council chiefs have warned that local businesses are facing a “real challenge” as there are “more vacancies than people” to take industries facing shortfalls, such as hospitality, agriculture and lorry drivers.
Jo James, CEO of the Kent chamber of commerce, said the Kent economy is being affected by immigration rule changes, following the Brexit agreement in 2019, as European workers are no longer taking jobs in hotels and on farms. She said: “Businesses face a real challenge because there are more vacancies than there are people.

“I do not think the government realised how reliant some UK sectors are on European workers.” A local recruitment and training drive has been launched to attract more Kent residents to county employers, some of whom are facing employee shortages.

Around 7,000 people are studying “adult education” funded courses at three colleges to train up, including at MidKent College and North Kent College. The courses will help adult learners, mainly those aged over 25, to learn new job skills and help to fill gaps in business sectors who need workers.

Kent County Council's cabinet member for education, Cllr Shellina Prendergast said the “lack of skilled people was holding back the Kent economy” as over 1.8 million residents live in the county. Speaking to the cabinet last Thursday she said: “No one organisation has the answers, but we must get the most out of what we have.

“Collectively we are confident that our ambitions for our adult learners will come into fruition.” Separately, research has been conducted by the Kent Chamber of Commerce on the county industries most in need, such as for decarbonisation, agriculture and manufacturing.

Calling for more aid, Ms James said: “We are looking at a skilled people’s shortage, if the government is not going to change policy on immigration. How do we entice people into the market?”
She added: “We are identifying the current and future needs in the job sector and matching that against the current vacant positions.” A fresh jobs update will be presented to the cabinet at the end of the year.

Post-Brexit deal with India could be derailed over Braverman’s ‘disrespectful’ migrant comments

Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s claim that Indian migrants are the largest group who “overstay” their welcome in the UK could derail Britain’s post-Brexit trade deal with New Delhi.

Indian ministers are said to be furious with her remarks as the agreement is reportedly “on the verge of collapse”.

She aired concerns about the deal last week because it might increase migration, telling the Spectator “the largest group of people who overstay are Indian migrants”.

A source in Delhi (t)old the Times they were “shocked and disappointed” by the remarks, branding them disrespectful, while a government source said it had set the relationship a “step back”. “There’s still a lot of goodwill but if certain individuals are still embedded in the government it will paralyse the talks”.

A Department for International Trade spokesperson told City A.M “We have a close, positive working relationship with India and a thriving trade partnership worth £24 billion in 2021. “We continue to seek improvements to our current trading relationship. This is why we are negotiating a high-ambition Free Trade Agreement. “We remain clear we won’t sacrifice quality for speed, and will only sign when we have a deal that meets both countries’ interests.”

The Indian High Commission in London has been asked for comment.

The Brexit effect: how leaving the EU hit the UK

The UK's recent disastrous 'mini' Budget can trace its origins back to Britain's decision to leave the European Union. The economic costs of Brexit were masked by the Covid-19 pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine. But six years after the UK voted to leave, the effect has become clear.
