I think he'll always be bitter about the attitude era.

Biggest era in wrestling history which he wasn't a part of, and was ushered in partly by his two mortal enemies at the time (HBK, Vince).

:what:

Vince and HBK were able to do all of that shyt because they were going against Bret.

Austin was made at the WM where he fought Bret and the double switch happened.

Bret Hart getting turned on by the fans and uniting with his family against the harshening climate of the E contributed to the beginning of the Attitude Era :beli:

Bret keeping all of the shyt real, complaining about fans having no love for him or genuine good guys anymore and siding with SCSA like Snoop at the Source Awards was part of the work shoot that began the era. :beli:

Without Bret getting screwed over who knows how long before Mr McMahon became the biggest heel in the E, got out of the booth and came forward as the bauce :beli:

Bret spitting in the face of VKM and writing WCW in the air was one of the signature moments of the era before it was donned the Attitude Era.

Bret and Austin beating the shyt out of each other and getting his ass whooped in the ambulance, then HBK superkicking him in the wheelchair and the way HBK Taker were weaved into that feud began the Era.

Bret Austin HBK McMahon was all synergy.

And the writing of it was dope shyt the way it was woven together.

Bret was a big part of the Attitude Era.

This. Add in the NWO/WCW threat and the changing climate of late 90's TV that created a perfect storm. No one event single handedly made the Attitude Era, it was certain circumstances/events from 96-98 that allowed it to flourish.

Hell, Bret's goody-goody two shoes character helped cement SCSA.

Bret was a big part of the Attitude Era.

He was part of the start of it but most of it happened in spite of what he wanted rather than because of it. While that mindstate was worked into the storyline, it was very much based on his true feelings if you read his book and listen to his interviews.

HBK/HHH actually pushed for the edgier stuff. Bret rallied against it.

His character may have been written into sections that served as the precurser, but he fought the direction tooth and nail, and he was loooooong gone before things really kicked off.

Would McMahon have done the bad guy schtick? Eh, maybe, maybe not. No way to prove it. They could've just as easily put two and two together that Austin character needed an authority figure without the Bret/Vince saga. He was stunning Sarge, Vince, JR long before Vince became the over the top "Mr. McMahon".

Wow another anti-Hitman thread created by SilkkTheStalker, again. Didn't know you couldn't answer interview questions truthfully or else you'd be considered a whiner now.

What's your beef with him though? Did that nikka pass you over in the front row and give his sunglasses to another kid?

Something clearly happened in the past. Did the schoolyard bully apply the Sharpshooter on you every recess? Tell us your story :troll:

@krackdagawd & @bob loblaw already held it down, I got nothing to add.

Cripple H pushed for edgier stuff? LOL. Austin getting hot flipped everyone's mentality. All of those cats was kissing babies and acting brand new until Austin blew up. Taker still was cartoonish, Sid was wildin out, Foley was goofy as fukk, Michaels was playing like he was injured and forfeiting titles, Cripple H was NOTHING...shyt, Goldust had more impact from he start until Austin and his shyt got over big heading into 1997.

The NwO gray zone and Sting being a loner was already influencing fans anyway.

Yeah, HHH pushed for it while in the early stages of DX w/ Shawn.

They were clowning around in the back, decided to do it in the ring and had to fight Vince and urge him to let it continue. HBK said in his book that it wasn't long afterwards when vince had the meeting and said they are gonna start pushing the envelope.

Pushed for it? No...the NwO shyt was going strong and that was some cool heel shyt. ECW was where the idea of the Attitude Era format was stolen from. Austin was already doing some of the Stone Cold shyt in ECW as Superstar Steve Austin..he just wasn't unleashed on the mic until like 5 months during his run. Michaels and Cripple H were bombing big in early 97 and the WWF was riding the Undertaker as the top guy with the Bret/Austin feud having a ton of steam for WM 13. Michaels was MIA and HHH didn't mean shyt. He had no influence whatsoever. He was a loser. A jobber. Given the most worthless King of the Ring win since Mabel.

Bret has to be working here. He's right when it comes to his kayfabe character, but "bad fans" and "they came just to get drunk" is just too ridiculous. Where do you start?
