That what you reall have to love about Mann's style. He is a character director; He gets characters on screen and really digs deep into their motivations and relationships with one another...unfortunately, COllateral was the last time he did this and Miami Vice, you can tell he was trying to do that, but he tried to balance the style shyt too much with it. That's why Thief and Manhunter and Heat are so amazing. They are basically character driven movies and do not work if the main characters aren't so complex and interesting.

And I have ALOT of issues with Lincoln even though Day-Lewis did a great job; but Spielberg has 2 movies as my #1 and #2 of all time so he still is in great favors for me
Oh of course he's had some wack joints but the good still outweighs the bad.
Definitely; he can drop nothing but duds from now on but it wouldn't have effect on my admiration for Schindler's List and Munich.

I'm hella tired so I probably can't expound on this too much b4 going to sleep but this is one of the flicks I don't get. Not I don't get the movie but I don't get the praise it got. I thought it was a standard team base thriller that I've seen plenty of times
Not even saying it's a bad flick, but the greatness of it just went over my head kind of like Argo and plenty of "highly" rated flicks.

Understood. For me its the historical context of the film and the thematic intersectionality of race, class, and violence that I think has never been told better than in that film. its not as highly praised as I think it should be but whatever. As a personal choice, the only movie I put above it in history is Schindler's List and that's for the same reasons I love Munich.
