Would ya'll prefer a fragrance that had a great opening but average dry down or a fragrance that had a average opening and a great dry down?

I think I'm the former out of the two. Of course we all want a well rounded fragrance that's great the entire duration but just curious to anyone else thoughts on that.

On another note I tried PDM Haltane and I'm not a big fan. The opening smells like pencil shavings but the dry down was nice. The dry down reminded me of BR540. I think it's the Saffron, and Cedar combination that I'm picking up on. Not a bad scent at all but I'm not all that impressed with Haltane.

This is a good question.

I think with fragrances, 95% of people form their opinion of a fragrance based on the opening. They go to Macy's, spray it on a card, and within 5 seconds they decide if they like it or not.

I was like this. To be clear, I think the opening does matter. When I get a decants, first impression is a big deal.
That said, fragrances last 5 hours or more. I find it annoying when I spray something and love it for the 1st 30 minutes, and then 3 hours later I can't wait to wash it off. Not necessarily because I hate the dry down, but because I'm just bored or sick of it.

I probably lean toward a better dry down, but both are important.

Personal examples:

Russian Tea by Masque Milano - I like the opening, but I get tired of it after a while.

Oud Bleu Intense by Fragrance Du Bois - Don't love the opening, but I like it in the dry down.
Terre d'Hermes Parfum - Don't love the opening, but I like it in the dry down.

Just got my Argos Discovery Set of 12. The shyt was really damn near 12 for 12:wow:
Danae, Pour Homme, Triumph of Bacchus, Brivido Della Caccia, Adonis Awakens :ohlawd:
Ya'll know where I can find decants? :feedme:

perfume
fragrancesline

Those two sights above I've never used but that might be the only place you can get some decants unless you either buy another discovery set or find somebody pushin' it on their own on Reddit/eBay, etc.

It's not the usual sights I fucc wit I don't think, like ScentSplit, DecantX, Decant House, etc

I'm definitely in this 95% number this is very true. There are subtle differences between card and skin as well. True fragheads in that Macy's scenario would be more patient and I imagine if their at Macy's rather than some online discounter/retailer or reputable perfumery in their area they are not looking to have their socks blown off with some designer or popular niche fragrance brand. Also I think most people in that 95% are use to linear fragrances so what you spray in the opening is what you get the entire duration.

Oh yeah of course.

That's fair. The Dry down when you think about it is what you and others will smell for the majority of the time while you're wearing the cologne.

This is my thinking, but as a result, I tend to prefer linear scents.

I can't think of anything that has a banger opening and then into a great dry down.

Mid and dry down is more important to me. But the average joe, will aways go by the top notes. Sotd Pure Tonka
