Don’t sleep on how popular Tiger continues
To be. He may be a white girl loving c00n but dude had TRULY transcended his sport.

OJ gotta be a contender for this
As it was mentioned in this thread, boxing is no longer popular as it once was, and its popularity certainly pales in comparison to football/soccer, as is the case with most American-centralized sports. I mean if you asked this same question in India (whose population dwarfs this country), there probably wouldn't be any American athletes listed in the poll.his nationality doesnt matter because boxing is a very popular sport globally.
that being said i dont think its him. my guess is pele.
do athletes turned political figures count? imran khan, PM of pakistan, was a well-known cricket player
Football/soccer is bigger than basketball in Europe and China; it's bigger than basketball almost all over the globe. I don't think China is the "tie breaker" either, as India has a comparable population, and you still have countries like Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria who collectively are comparable too. @19- mentioned a former cricketer/current politician which is trending in the right direction, as cricket is arguably the second-most popular sport in the world.is soccer big in china? that to me is the tie breaker...
NBA is big in north america, europe, and china....so i'd go with jordan, kobe or lebron
Soccer is big in - south america, europe and africa...so i'd roll with one of them i guess
Jordan isn't fukking with Ronaldo/Messi. Stop it. He's not even in the conversation.MFs in China still wearing this and making knock offs shoes.
Jordans are worn all over the world.
nikkas know the logo and they no the name. Jordan hands down
yeah i brought him up because he would be known by those younger people in southeast asia not because hes an athlete so much as because hes a PM.As it was mentioned in this thread, boxing is no longer popular as it once was, and its popularity certainly pales in comparison to football/soccer, as is the case with most American-centralized sports. I mean if you asked this same question in India (whose population dwarfs this country), there probably wouldn't be any American athletes listed in the poll.
Khan's an interesting one, I think he suffers from being too old, and the generation that's most familiar with him is dying off, and he obviously can't compete with other athletes who've got the hold on all the younger generations. Tendulkar would be more famous in 2018, in fact, he's more famous than a lot of the athletes listed in this thread.
Second only to football/soccer, and football/soccer is only second to cricket in India - that's basically 2.5 billion people (30% of the world's population) who in a general state, would know Ronaldo/Messi over any basketball player. To take it even further, if we take the combined population of Asia, Africa, and Europe who make up 80% of the world's population, in a general state, they'd all know Ronaldo/Messi over any other athlete.yeah i brought him up because he would be known by those younger people in southeast asia not because hes an athlete so much as because hes a PM.
wasnt tyson popular just before boxing really dropped off?
as far as american athletes go basketball is pretty popular in china. i know when i was there there were still kobe posters like everywhere (in 2014). partially i think that was because they had all those kobe-messi ads around the time though.
This is the correct answer although Bolt in addition wouldn't be superfluousCurrent: Ronaldo/Messi
*waits for Coli ignoramus to say nobody knows them in America so they don't count*
