Second only to football/soccer, and football/soccer is only second to cricket in India - that's basically 2.5 billion people (30% of the world's population) who in a general state, would know Ronaldo/Messi over any basketball player. To take it even further, if we take the combined population of Asia, Africa, and Europe who make up 80% of the world's population, in a general state, they'd all know Ronaldo/Messi over any other athlete.

:manny:
You could add South America to that list as well. Only acceptable answers are Ronaldo or Messi.
Jordan leading the polls. :mjlol:

I think Christiano is the right answer.

Don't sleep on Steph Curry either. He had billboards in Germany last summer - shyt was eye-opening. Duke is pretty damn popular
Steph isn't a factor. Even #1 Bron pales in popularity relative to the likes of Cron/Messi/(honestly any Top 20 footballer)/Fed/Nadal/Woods/Bolt etc). It's an entirely different level

True that. I was simply shocked by Steph's fame.

Thread would curtains if we just name everyone playing footy

It's going to be soccer since it's the biggest sport

So Ronaldo/Messi

Pele/Maradona were basically MJ (especially for their country) and many still see them as GOAT tier so they're probably more well known worldwide than MJ

MJ is definitely the most famous american athlete

I also want to add that Sachin Tendulkar, while largely unknown here, is literally the Michael Jordan of India. He's basically MJ (dominance) /LeBron (hype) / Maradona (size) all rolled up in one, in a sport followed intensively by like 2/5ths of the world population
