Yep. GSW was Steph’s team. BKN was Harden’s team. Hell, even OKC was Russ’ team if we being real. KD is the ultimate closer, but he’s not leading a team.

And now you basically have two #2s trying to win in PHX. KD, Kyrie, Book.. all these games are in the same category. They need a real #1 to play off of.

KD is a horrible GM, and Booker and Beal never won shyt as the main guy. Even when Phoenix went to the Finals and followed up that season with the best record, CP3 was the leader of that team. Phoenix never even made the playoffs until they got Chris Paul (Booker was in his SIXTH season). Beal has never made it out of the second round.

Current NBA cap structure hamstrings teams from building the type of rosters that would be allowed just 10 years ago.
Phoenix and Boston are the only 2 teams to "circumvent" that with their recent moves, before the punishing apron taxes kicked in.

Phoenix trading Beal for CP3 is out of KD's control and that really broke the dynamic this team had. Moving 3 young productive players over the years certainly didn't help (Ayton was becoming a bum though).

Honestly this, you can't just put big names together anymore and just win. The league is just too talented, and if you're not stacking up wins in the regular season to get good seeding, it's anything goes from there. Suns owner saw big names and thought it was gonna help them win immediately, getting Beal was always gonna be a bad move.

You never could. You look back, how many championship teams are just big names thrown together? Big 3 Celtics and Bron. Thats it...thats the list. You need an actual functional team (in addition to star power of course) to win. Its hard maintain this while clearing out cap room or making big trades. With the current financial structure its all but impossible to build an actual team after acquiring guys making this kinda money.

Most players are. Players are often no better than fans in that they are wowed by a big name or skillset or flashy moves. They have personal relationships and biases. Add to that many are spoiled children AND they are used to being so much better than anyone else that they can just figure it out on the court no matter what. The real issue is these weak and or incompetent FOs bending to their whims and/or having the players do their jobs for them.

Bro- dudes will keep their heads in the sand when it comes to KD. Of course they run shyt pass him and get his input. When he left for GS, every fukkin GM knew they had to make sure he was comfy/good in his situation going forward.
TheColi will try their best to make it seem as if he has no input, say so to what's going on.

Like the GM request to have a conversation with KD about something player/coaching related and he just responds ", do what ya'll got to do, let me go get these 1000 jump shots up"

Its not really about chasing big names. Its about how some of these big names arent worth the full Max contract.

Its still a salary cap sport. And there is too much talent across the league that can beat a team with just 2 good players and a bunch of spare parts.

Plus, you cant really have 2 kings anymore. Gotta have 1 king, and a bunch of great players (Rooks, Bishops, Knights). Too much talent these days.
