Robeson was the valedictorian at Rutgers, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with four consecutive oratorical contest wins all four years he was there, and then went on to earn his law degree from Columbia and founded the newspaper Freedom in addition to founding the American Crusade Against Lynching along with decades at the forefront of the civil rights movement, the labor movement, and the socialist movement.
