MGM Resorts International
has pitched the NBA on an
audacious proposal to house
their athletes and necessary
support staffto hold their
seasons on a quarantined
block on the Las Vegas Strip,
according to Kevin Draper on
the New York Times.
I really do think they will go this route. Seems the most plausible (once their is enough tests)

:ohhh: So could KD actually come back THIS season if they delay it till Nov-Dec?
No way they're going to delay the current season 6+ months, they will more than likely have a decision on whether to cancel this season and start preparing for the next season before the end of June.

I think if they can't continue then they'd have to use the standings as is. That's another issue. If everyone played the same amount of games then they'd probably consider already having a cutoff and then canceling the rest of the games, but some teams played more than others (I still think they'd just use winning % for lotto odds)

Everyone has not played the same amount of games. I been looking into this and I think they have to do a cut off of records for 63 games for it to be fair. Even using winning % it isn’t uniform because that too is affected by how many games are played. Once the league does that it will cause a lot of record ties in the lottery. If their smart though they’ll create a show for this tiebreakers, just like they’ll do a show for the lottery, and then the draft.

All that said this draft is going to be a shyt show. There is no real consensus on any of the picks range outside of the top 4.

Joe Tsai(Owner of the Brooklyn Nets) hinted at a divide among NBA owners on a return-to-play this season. Although noting that he’s “kind of under a gag order,” Tsai suggested to Stanford’s Tom Byers that owners of contending teams may be more enthusiastic about getting back on the court than those whose teams are near the bottom of the standings.

“The reality is everybody is still trying to figure things out with the hope that maybe we can reopen the season —the current season— because ... think about this: the Los Angeles Lakers or the Milwaukee Bucks, they’re in first place when the season got suspended. There’s a chance of them going for the championship. Of course, they want to play. The players want to play. The ownership wants to play.

“Then, there are other teams, if you’re in 28th place, maybe this season isn’t that important. So there’s a difference of opinion among the owners as well.”

“But I think that what Adam Silver, the commissioner, is focused on is that No. 1 making sure that all the players and everyone associated with the NBA are safe if we do re-open and and the safety question, you have to rely on data. I think Adam has said, ‘look, we’re not looking at a date. Setting a target date doesn’t make any sense. Look at the data.

“To Dr. Fauci’s point, you have to have enough tests.”

“We’re one individual team but we’re also part of the league, so I’m kind of under a gag order as to what I really think about what the NBA should do.”
