don't forget about Obama.

I'm sure you save some of that vitriol for the millions of African-Americans that live vicariously through the president and view him as a source of personal pride.

lol the old sohh/coli comeback - "yeah but your guy is bad too :smugbiden: "

i don't approve of hero worship whether it's george washington, 2pac, noriega (although i make an exception for Noreaga what what), king abdulaziz, lumumba, lincoln, helen keller, obama, the prophet muhammad, john calvin, menno simons, king solomon, gandhi, or anyone else.

in saying that i understand enough of mob physics to realize why people would rally around a certain figure. i decry the figures that wallow in the hero worship though, because they are individuals, often of high intelligence, and they know better.

i have a question for the chavez fans in here - how many of you consider yourselves socialist and how many of you taste sugar whenever someone has the balls to insult america on global tv?

Doesn't matter what you personally feel shouldn't be. It is what is is. Society created this to be so whether you like it or not. People always needed a leader that is how it's been.

I appreciate Hugo for this simple reason: the quality of life for countless of Afro-Venezuelans, Indigenous-Venezuelans, women, the working class and the poor have improved demonstrably under his presidency and while Venezuela remains deeply fractured today, Chavez left behind a people educated, empowered and capable of improving on his model.

and I enjoyed his anti-Zionist, Pro-Palestinian rhetoric too. :manny:

What about the lowest of the low who are empowered through an individual? they see the individual as addressing their needs, and restoring dignity and pride to their lives? so they respect this person and support this person and put him/her on a pedestool because of the influence and positivity theyve brought to their lives?

sure you can sit here and harp about hero worship but really in the grand scheme of things what right do you have to tell the downtrotten slum residing resident of caracas that hey youre a loser for worshipping another man

leaders are not heroes

you seriously have no room in your brain for discernment. it's very clear that when issues get complex, you get confused. i'm tired of playing this game with you.

not only that but you just :yeshrug: 'd all of the world's problems. don't like something? well it is what it is, sorry. doesn't matter how you feel

1. Down-playing History is what is shown in your viewpoint. To many people leaders are heroes...those that they look up to. Those they can follow in the steps of. Your condescending tone proves you can't handle what is in life. Instead of tackling the premise of leadership, you damn it as some type of cult following.

How would the workers of the first part of the 20th Century be if they didn't look up to the Union Organizers who stepped up to help them in the dire crisis?

What about the Civil Rights Leaders whose memorizing voices and words/actions created a movement that created change out of the times of struggle and oppression?

2. Without Struggle there is no progress. Things exist b/c in order for us to find solutions to fix them, they continue. Maybe in your world it's bizarro but it is what it is. Men/Women are trying to change it, Men/Women trying to keep it the same or make it worse.

i appreciate that too, as long as those reforms stick. i didn't appreciate him strangling media that didn't support him, and i didn't appreciate his hellfire and brimstone fluff or his desperate attempts to place himself among other icons of revolution. for example, exhuming bolivar's remains was a fukking circus act, not to mention disrespectful and pretentious - presidency doesn't grant one the right to do such things - and should not be tolerated in societies based on rationale and solid reason.

I was listening to NPR, and one of the correspondants on there basically said this:

For all the shyt talking Chavez did about the US, a large chunk of the Venezuelan economy was directly dependent on the US buying from CITGO. He then went to say that Venezuela provided (indirectly) the oil for American imperialism in the Middle East.

Thoughts?
