Can someone clear this up for my ignorant ass, is the boston marathon a professional run? Or is it one of those marathon anyone can run?

If youre from the area you can run it...but if not, you have to have run another marathon under a certain time to be allowed to participate.
Its a big deal for runners to run the Boston.
